okay, so i bought a swift mini from mscomposit the other day because being epp, i figured itd be a great plane to take out and fly pretty much any time, plus its smaller than my byp yak, which is a bear to fit in my car without it breaking.

so i built this thing, and put an eflite park 300 motor on it. they suggested an axi motor, but i didnt feel like paying 70 bucks for one.

so, onto the question: they suggest a 400-750mah 2 cell, and i bought a 450 thinking keeping the weight low would be a good thing. problem is, i cant get the plane to balance out, its too backheavy. i also havent hollowed the plane out to place my rx and speedo either. does balance matter much on flying wings?

I have a old Swift and found the balance point very critical. With a incorrect balance point it would just keep looping on me.

Breaking a stall with a wing is a pain when tail heavy... expect to put it down unexpectedly. I'd add weight to the small battery, and then buy the right weight battery after you've burned up this little one.

i called the store i bought the battery at, explained my situation, and they said as long as i have the packaging and hadnt used the batteries i could exchange them for another size.

the plane weighed in at 4.6oz (130g) and the recommended flying weight is 120g-140g, so i dont know what a larger battery will do. maybe the park 300 is a bit large for the plane, but maybe i can make up with it by having the larger battery?

i also just looked at eflite's website. the park 300 motor weighs 24g vs the axi at 18g. also, the axi spins at 1700 kv and the eflite at only 1380kv.

the park 300 is also recommended for 3-D 6-9 oz so i think the 300 was overkill :(

the park 250 says 2200kv and for 3-D weights of 4-6 oz, which is the range this plane falls into, but i dont know how it would work considering it is much faster than the recommended motor.

hey thanks everyone for your help. went to the LHS last night to sell a plane on consignment and also got advice on my swift. they said it would fly fine even with a lighter battery. i decided to fly it today on my lunch hour and it did well, although the wind likes to throw it around.

let me tell you, it crashes as good as it flies! i am a true believer in the ms composit brand now and will definitely buy more from them in the future.
