ICH - I believe that I read you have the AH Helix also. How do you compare the Z to the Helix?

Has anyone tried to mod these little things yet? I bought one and I tore off a piece of the foam covering the IR sensor the two fins are still on the bottom I just tore out a chunk of foam between them.

i dont have my scale with me, but i've trimmed quite a bit of foam off, also removed the paper sticker that goes down the tail boom, as well as the two clear plastic spur gear protectors. it goes to the ceiling a lot easier now, but its a bit more jumpy. the main rotor shaft and flybar linkages have a lot of slop in them, so i plan to use ball bearings and brass bushings instead to make things a bit more stable. lots of cool little things to mod with on the heli, a full CF frame would be fun to do.

Local toys 'r Us doesn't have them here nor does any local Rat shacks. They DO have their own heli that looks close to the same but it's $50. I passed on it for now.

People are reporting Rat Shack online is shipping them now after lots of "in stock" orders got cancelled...

Tom

Patients seems to be the key for this little heli.

i picked up my 3rd piccoZ today. one is for a friend, one is for my modifying/parts, the 3rd is for actually flying. the more i get used to the heli, the more i enjoy it. with some simple weight removal, and a tack in the nose, some nice flights can be made. the heli can be pretty fast too with enough weight on the nose. the vibrations and wobbles got increasingly worse the more weight i removed and the more i seperated the two foam halves. this is one of the few "toys" that seem to fly better in almost completely stock form (i'm sure i'll eat those words at some point!). i'll get a video later today, but here's a few pictures. for the price of an AA, its certainly worth it. next project is to use the piccoZs motor/prop unit in a plane and see if a micro VTOL will work.

i wouldnt go by what RadioShacks website says about availability, they said they didnt have any at the RS i went to today and they had at least 5 of them. i'd give the closest place a call and see if they actually have them in stock at the store - if we have them here in minnesota, they've got to be filtering east pretty quick.

i dont have the micron, but i'm more than willing to say that they are no where near the same calibur of helictopers.

the micron is a fixed pitch heli, using servos to control a swashplate, which in turns controls the flybars - moving the heli in whatever direction. the picco just uses momentum, CG location, and prop torque to fly about. with that said though, i think the picco is as easy to fly as the AA, probably easier. the micron on the other hand...well, unless you're already flying micro sized helis, you may want to opt for a simulator. the smaller the "real" helis get, the more squirly and harder to control they get. they arent cheap either! i spent almost as much money on repair parts on my Dragonfly as i did on the dragonfly itself (i should've gotten the simulator!), but i've smashed the picco into everything and it just shrugs it off. its very durable.

i was really interested in the micron at one stage but i found it a bit too dear. I like the way the Picoo is tough and cheap!

Personly I do not like the picco Z, I found a better chopper at dick smith electronics called the bladerunner 2, its heaps better then the picoo as its 3 ch not very big looks nice and has 15 flight time and has a nice search light in the nose and also a strobe light at the back 13BT you should consider it.

i picked up a picco yesterday at TRU for $29.99. i have to say im kinda disappointed. unless im missing something, the controls have no effect at all. the instructions make no sense and the battery won't keep a charge. i understand the "momentum mobility" theory, but unless you have quite a bit of room indoors, you'll have trouble controlling this thing. Also, the trim has to be adjusted after each crash. maybe i just dont have the patience for micro heli's. it seems like a lot of hype and no delivery.

Hey rjgstrong, buy a bladerunner2!!! Its so smooth and easy to fly in small places, hovers by its self you can put the remote on ground and it will still hover and plus its WAY BETTER then the picoo since it flys over 15mins and is 3ch!!! It even has a search light and a strobe light, BY THE WAY THE BLADERUNNERS 2 ARE GOING TO TAKE OVER THE PICOOS!!

And no I dont work for radio shack!
