well I've tried everything to get the light to turn green on the charger. Its been red for about an hour and a half. Guess I must have a bad battery/charger. Anyone got any ideas what to do next...

Jiggle it around untill it turns green, you might have to plug the battery in before you plug in the charger or vice-versa...

Make sure you have the + to + and - to - on the charger.I do not have mine in front of me, but I believe it goes in with the back facing out.

UAV,

I was reading some of the discussion on converting the SL to brushless. Is there a commercially manufactured brushless motor available for this conversion. I am cheap so cost is a big factor. What is the weight on your BL motors.

Is this one even close? The weight is probably too much at 26 grams.

http://www.raidentech.com/30brmo1.html

300XT Brushless Motor 1300 RPM

An excellent motor for the small indoor flyer such as the Ikarus Shock Flyers. Suitable for 2 or 3 lithium polymer cells operation.

Battery Pack 2-3 Lithium polymer cells
Current 4 Amps continuous
KV 1300 rpm per Volt
Prop (direct drive) 7” x 4” to 8” x 6”
Body Diameter 25.6mm.
Body Length 17.7mm.
Weight 26g
Shaft 3.0mm
SMC-M-APMBL301

Needs to spin a prop no bigger than a 4 X 2 (stock prop is a 3.75 x 2) at least 20,000 rpm at 7.4 volts . Thats what the stock SL motors spin. They weight in at 25 grams each.

My brushless motors I make weigh 19 grams each , spin the same prop about ????? don't know, RPM meter stops picking it up. But I know that i am getting twice as much thrust from each motor. This is with a 3S battery though. At 7.4 volts I get about the same as the stock motors , a Little better, but longer flight times. With 11.1 it's just stupid fast

You can read more on my conversion on this page at RCGroups > [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=535884&page=63&pp=25]here[/link] < Start on post number 1573 and read a few post into it and I show some close ups of the motor and installation. I'll post some here to .

I wish you could put descriptions under the pics here[]

I thought my battery was bad, but it took me 15-20 minutes moving it around, pulling it in and out, tilting it before I seen a green light.Maybe you got a bad one, but I really think the contacts suck on them, as the have flaps in the battery.Just moving it around slowly and up and down.I have charged mine 10 times so far, and only once I did not have to mess around to get green light.

Does it seam to work OK in the SL?
Cause if it does work well in the SL but not in the charger. It may be that the third contact point on the side of the battery is not making good contact inside the charger.

UAV,

You must not get much sleep replying to all the posts addressed to you. But thanks very much for the time. Apparently you do love this sport. I will look over the other thread.

I did notice someone saying that they were about to hang up their hopes of getting a SL this Fall and wait until next spring because they were pulling their boats out of the lake. What the heck is he thinking. SL on snow, ice, and any other flat surface will be a hoot. I cannot wait for winter. Well I guess I can wait for the -20 degree part of it.

Cheers,

Ok, I just crashed hard, and SL died no juice. This may help out with the battery problem, but you have to take battery apart.I was not getting power so with razor knife cut open battery careful, and there is was, the connectors are very cheap inside and mine broke off where the wire connects to to terminal.Take a ohm meter and see if you can get current threw battery

UAV Pilot, when I put the battery in the SL the elevator will come on and move up and down in both beginner and expert mode. When I push the start button and hold for 5 or so secs on both modes the propellars turn on for a brief second and then when I give it some throttle nothing happens. But the whole time the horizontal is moving by itself like theres interferance. Guessing I have a dead battery. I posted on this topic also in RC Forums too which you answered...

UAV,

I looked over your postings at RCgroups regarding your CDR motors. Only question I have left is, do you have an item/part number for the magnets you ordered from Super Magnet Man?

On this page > [link=http://www.engconcepts.net/List_Of_Motor_Magnets.asp]here[/link] < I am useing the 5 mm curved magnets part # M5025. To install them I used some small pieces of 30awg magnet wire to space the magnets out properly.

The 6.5 mm wide magnets # M5045 farther down will press fit into the stock end bell if you sand off the edges a little bit. They are a little heavier but a little more efficient.

I got my launcher today! It is soooooo cool I have not been able to fly it due to bad weather[&o] Tommorow if the weather is good after school, i will drive it around in the pond across my street. I dont want to take my first "flight" over water i case of a crash and flipping it.
