Post-saltwater soak remedy:
For those who are surrounded by salt water, as I am on this island, there is a solution to a bird that becomes an R/Csubmarine.
High tides innundated my flying area but I was not deterred. When I cut power on T-28 #1, code name "Tape", I was committed to landing-too far from my spot of land-andI put her softly on top of the tidal pool's surface like Captain Sully Sullenberger, a little tail first like a boat on a plane, then the nose.Splash was minimal but nodoubt impacted the prop motor and drive, and more than likely entered the fuselage and sprayed the circuit board and three micro servos with brackish salty water. The T-28 floats like a cork, by the way.
I opened her up and sprayed her electrics with LPS-1 and put LPS-2 on the four motor shafts and did this:
Hung inverted inside her box any water drained away and the oil displaced it all.
Electrics okay.
She runs better now than ever. Tough bird.

Well that is a lot better than bouncing it off a barn. My little bird is in sad need of major repairs, like a whole new airframe. However, it still flies!

"When I cut power..." When ya seen you was gonna swim, why not add power? I dunno...a million square miles to go around in but I dunked her in the drink instead of flipping that lever up a lil' bit...But at least the rest of us got the info we needed if we dump ours in the friggun ocean for cripes sake.

We ALL have made bad choices, from time to time.[&o] I'd say if he had a "DO OVER" he wouldn't have took the plane swimming!

Hi! (that's "Yes" in one true language, Japanese). Sakai see B-17 on Facebook and go hide under cherry blossoms and bamboo because Sakai hear plane at same time fly over dojo. Sakai paranoid ofbig American bomber. Sakai wish had old Zero. Put on silkhead scarf, take off, go shoot down, like old times.

Yo, acdii! Please continue to keep us posted on that sweet '17. That's noble work at a timewe need to reflect on our great American Aviationhistory of serving liberty around the world when the call must be answered or thousands, even millions of innocents would perish. My, look at the service of our sweet RPVs, pilots! It is a time to reflect, yes,and ACT! And fly, too, for qualitydown-time.Hey, I admire what you are doing, acdii. Godspeed! We must start a "UM T-28 Brotherhood" thread. I love that little bird. Peace. Out. Banzai!
