Redesigned Falcon 1.7 gram servos
 

I just got a couple of the new falcon 1.7 gram servos in the mail from England. These little jewels are incredible! They weigh less than the 'standard' magnetic actuators, but have a huge amount of torque. The throws are rather short due to the basic design, but the output is very smooth and positive. There is no micro-potentiometer but rather use a Hall sensor an tiny magnet for signalling the feedback circuit. There are only three moving parts!

I bought a bunch of the first ones they produced and they are superb. Now, they have made a number of mods to them to make them even better.

They gave us another output arm to make running two ailerons off the same servo easier (previously, the motor got in the way). The have reduced the size of the holes in the output arms to .020" to fit the brass rod we all use. They have also added two pre-drilled mounting holes so we're not so dependant on the stickiness of the servo tape that was recommended before.

The circuitry has been upgraded as well to prevent the 'run-away' problems we found on the first few prototypes during system initiation. The 'run-away' was almost completely stopped by running a switch in the power line to prevent 'bouncing' the current while trying to plug connectors together, but the modification they have made means it should no longer be a problem. A switch is cheap insurance.

Here's a shot showing the old and new designs, The new one on the left shows the additional output arm, mounting holes, and a new selection of material for the worm gear. The new sevos should be back in stock in the US from Bob Selman by the end of the week.

To give you an idea of the size of these servos, those are 1/16" square stringers they are posed on...

Ok you have me hooked on the idea of these small servos ... I was at the Puallup Wa .Model swap meet and there was a guy that was flying a Gulliows Corsair that weighed 4 ounces with everything..I have to know where to get the sevos and what radio reciever battery and motor to get for something that small ..I would have asked there but the guy was mobbed with onlookers and I just couldnt get close enough to hear what was being said .. I did get a look at the servos in it and they looked like the ones in the pic here .. Thanks for any info on this size of flying models ..

They can be run off any convention radio (with plug adapters to fit the micro-JSTs) or run directly off the Cirrus MJ Rx (~3 g) from [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net]Hobby People[/link], the Sky Hooks and Rigging Rxs (http://www.microrc.com/), the [link=http://gasparin.cz/page.php?page=products/rcsystems/penta&lng=en]Gasparin Penta[/link] (2.6 g), and a couple more almost-ready-to-release micro Rxs (2 to 3 g). They do not work with radios meant to drive actuators.

This airplane is 2 3/8 ounces and uses these servos and the MJ RX and ESC.
