Skeeter Build from DU. Pictures

well after my last attempt at the DU Tiger Moth turned out unsuccessfull i decided to try this skeeter kit from DU. it is a little more straight forward and can be built very light. the entire assembly took about 12 hours (if you have all the components). i have been waiting for a calm night for about 2 weeks now but the glide tests were very good. it flew slow and stable in the 3 second flights downt the hallway. i will report more once i give it a proper flight.

Motor - KP00 and Union 80 Prop
Actuators - 2 (elevator and rudder)
Receiver - RFFS
Battery - 210 mAh Li-Polly single cell

RE: Skeeter Build from DU. Pictures

Hi Evol,

I flew mine in a gym in Wisconsin Rapids last week Friday. It flew very nicely, but it's very fast. After some trimming, I was able to make a nice 10 minute flight with a perfect landing. My next flight I got a little too adventuresome. I was trying to line it up on a diagonal to attempt a loop, and I let it get a bit behind me. I ran it into a bleacher overhang and...well, you know.

I'll repair it. I just want to warn you that it's fast. Fast and small can be a deadly combination, especially indoors. I'm more interested in the RFD100 system, and intend eventually to move it to a stick and tissue airplane which will have a little more drag, and fly a little slower.

Have fun!

dhable,
I'm surprised you would label the Lil Skeeter as fast. It can be VERY fast when flown at full throttle but if you throttle it back you should be able to slow it down to a speed equivalent of a fast jog. Generally I only use full throttle on a Skeeter to perform aerobatics.

RE: Skeeter Build from DU. Pictures

i flew the skeeter a few days ago out side at night. there was just a tiny breeze around and i picked out an intersection with a street light over it. it took off great and i needed to hold a lot of down elevator to keep it from stalling. i got in on the ground and added a little bit of weight to the nose and tried again. this time it flew great. at full power it was zipping around the block and at 1/2 power it was a gentle flyer. i want to find an indoor flying site near milwaukee WI for the winter........but on a calm night under a streetlight is amazing.
