Will it fly?

I built this 3d model when I was inspired by the other designs on this site. I'm wondering if you guys think it would fly just as a glider. It'd be made out of 1/32" balsa for the frame and body. I'd cover the wings with tissue paper. It's wingspan is 6" and its length is 4.7"

RE: Will it fly?
she should fly just fine as a glider. having the wing at the mid point of the fuselage might make for a bit less stability, but with enough dihedral in the wing tips, it should be ok.
i noticed you're in MN also, where abouts? nick |

I use to live in plymouth but now I live in Edina off 169. Do you have any tips for a better design besides making it bigger? Like making the tail wing have dihedral? What would maximize distance but keep stabilization.

No matter how well the plane is designed there's always a need to make fine trimming adjustments in the field. |

This is the finished product. I magnified the plans by 25%.

RE: Will it fly?
its a good start :)
i would suggest going with a more thin balsa for the wings. since you're off 169, there's two hobby shops you could go to for thinner stuff. Hub Hobby on 62 and Penn is huge and has absolutely everything you could ever need, HobbyTown USA in Brooklyn Park has a much smaller selection, but they've got some balsa (hobbytown is a little cheaper too). i dont recall ever seeing 1/32" square balsa sticks, but you can cut your own out of a balsa sheet with a ruler. one other sugestion would be to put the top spar that runs along the top/middle of the wing on the inside of the wing ribs, rather than on top of them. this way when you cover it with tissue it'll have cleaner line. i'm just outside of Plymouth, 15 minutes west, down hwy 55. nick |
