Installed the 28x in the Biside and tried the last method Steve told us about for the throttle to rudder mix.. Where you trim for the downline and add mix points for everything else. Works really well. I did try to add more right thrust and as BJ said, it really didn't make any difference. I'm really curious how the contra works on it. I use the F3A U 4500's and the batteries are about 2" from the back of the Pletty Advance. I do have the new wing incidence kit on it. It flys pretty awesome in my opinion. Kinda shocked that F3A U has them for such a good deal still. U da man Mike! Almost want to pick up a ARC version and do my own scheme. Although I don't really have any issue seeing it. Maybe if work picks up soon.

Hey Chris,

Glad to see you are grooving with the BiSide. It really is an awesome flying plane. I have mine pretty well dialed in. I'm running the 3 blade Mezjlik 20x13 so I can't use the 4500's and have to go with the heavier 5100's. But, it is really nice flying with that 3 blade setup.

I'm using the PT 20x13 3 blade I think (Don't remember the brand, never changed it, lol). It's been super windy here when I fly lately, but never use over 3500 for Masters. The new radio.. Wow is all I can say. Setting up the plane again is a challenge for me with it as setup isn't my gig really. But the radio is actually so much easier to setup than my previous radios, it's kind of like common sense. Not just saying that cuzza the affiliation. The setup just clicks with me. I have it really close to being setup. Just need some non windy days. The Episode I got from you, just getting started resetting that up. Put wing adjusters in the front to try some things. Hasn't made it better than where you had the incidence set! haha.. Fun to experiment for me and learn more. Probably end up back where it was soon.

Thanks for the report Chris. Yes we still have them on sale. It's a great plane for the price.
As far as the scheme it's a funny thing. I see it very well in the air. Some don't. It has to be an eye thing for some people.
I only have a few left so the price is good till we run out.
I can't wait to do the mods and get mine into the air this spring.
Plus now I have a beautiful Inspire, Invitation and a Essence.
Owning this business has benefits!!!!

I don't think it's really just an "eye thing". i wondered if it was just me, and numerous other pilots confirmed that the plane all but disappeared. At the District Champs, held at my home field, some noticed that it was somewhat difficult to see the BiSide there. Noting that they didn't have the same problem at other fields. In the area where I live at least, the sky can get hazy, and actually get real close to the shade of silver on the plane. In blue sky, I didn't have as hard of a time seeing it, but I still prefer the darker scheme I have now.

Still a great plane. I'd buy another one actually, but the one I have hasn't seen daylight in some time. Hope I can change that soon, it's a fun airplane.

Tom no doubt about what your saying. If more people have trouble seeing then not then maybe it's my eye's.

Recently got mine in the air . . 22 flights on it now, and it's a great flying airplane. Just a real pleasure to fly.

It does everything easily and I have no issues with the build quality or airframe design. I think BJ knows what he's doing in that regard.
I haven't added the shim at the top wing mount, and it hasn't been an issue at all . . although I will add it just for a little extra support at the root. You can see in the pic, I carry it by the leading edge of the top wing and trailing edge of the bottom wing . . feels safe and secure.

Value for money, it's a 10/10 (if you want a Bipe).

Any issues getting the CG with the Contra?

I'm using 5200's weighing 1200g. I could go smaller in pack size/weight as I'm only using 3200mA for P15 on average even in wind. No problem with CG. Flying weight was 4780 .. but I've added the stab fences since.
It has a very light feel in the air. Nicely locked on and predictable. Easy to snap and it's the easiest airplane to stall and induce a spin in either direction I've flown.

Repairing minor damage to the wing of a BiSide I purchased from a friend. Does anyone know which brand of covering is used? Specifically the orange on the wings.

The covering that Hobbyking sells was an exact match for the purple, I assume it's all the same stuff.

Is this plane able to except IC engines? or only electric?

I wouldn't recommend trying to put a YS in a BiSide. Fuselage would need reinforcing throughout, you would need to add a removable cowl hatch for access. Probably change the wing mounting system for vibration. The most important mod would be to redesign the flying stab. I don't believe it would hold up well to YS vibration.

I have built two: one ARF and one ARC, both with Plettenberg Advance motors in F3AU motor mounts and 21/13.5 Falcon props. Very happy with that arrangement. I added more green to the wings--but essentially copied the original design and substituted more green for the orange on the fuse for more contrast from the wings. I used a light, gauzy cf cloth around the interior of the nose to about 5" back with thinned Titebond glue to reinforce the nose as it appears pretty light for pattern duty. AT THE VERY LEAST, I would do that and double it back maybe 10-12" and then mount your firewall. I don't think the airplane would live very long without a good quality soft mount. An additional former would probably be a good idea behind the hatch and some additional stiffening for that also. All up with 44 oz batteries, mine came out about 10 lbs/12 oz for the ARF and 10 lbs, 8 OZ for the ARC--so they are built very LIGHT for electric duty. You would want to be vigilant with all your connections and especially the flying stab the way things get shaken with a larger 4S engine.

So yes, it could be done and flown IC with some effort, but you may as well start biting the bullet and come on over to E power and start building your infrastructure! But of course, that's just my opinion!
Also used: Futaba sbus HV and HV servos (local HS matched online 'Club deals')
Mezon controllers, F3AU Batteries, back-up lipo receiver battery which is kept charged by the BEC--separately switched and works slick.

The flying stab would not be suitable for an IC engine. There is far too much vibration for it. All In All, its not a good idea to try to convert the plane to IC.

I flown my 1st electric airplane and wasn't very happy with the amount of batteries I needed just to fly around for 5 mins....
the esc kicked in voltage protect/battery and I crashed because of no power. (run out of fuel))....


My point... Electric's have the same issues as I.C.

Not good to run out of electrons. There must be something wrong with your set up. Maybe the battery size is too small for the airframe weight. With a nearly 5 kg BJ Craft Inspire ruining a contra drive on 4600mAh battery's I get a full 8 mins and still have 20% on average left in the battery.
Another problem could be the motor size/prop size combination you are using.

Just picked up a gently used Bi-Side. Has been previously run with a contra, I'll be using a front mount motor, single prop (either 2 or 3 blades). I could use some direction on motor thrust angles. TIA.
