I was reading this forum on redundant battery rcvr systems and picked one up and the same 2s packs to use for my rcvr. I noticed however that some of them state they just straight charged them without the balance circuit hooked up.
One other question, can you change these packs and let them sit or do you have to discharge them like the large packs?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Most modern chargers will require the balance lead connected to charge. I don't see any reason not to balance charge.

Wayne,
OK here’s my take. I use two TP 350ma packs that go for about 12 bucks each. I have one regulator set lower than the other (Tech Aero). I use about 50ma per flight and never fly more than four flights without changing the battery I am drawing from. By doing this, I never draw off the backup battery, but could in an emergency.
If I fly more than four flights I now have one discharged battery in the plane and one in the flight box. I don’t charge them until the next time I fly. I just rotate the backup battery in the plane every now and then and draw off it as the main battery.
So, do I discharge to storage after each use? No. I have been using the same three TP batteries for about a year and have no puffing or voltage drop. For 12 buck apiece why go to all the bother. For that kind of dough it’s easier to replace them every year or two.
