Default The most quiet electric 2M motor/prop?

Hi,
What motor and prop(s) is in Your opinion among the most quite today for 2M planes?
I have heard at competitions some rather quite Contras and as far as I remember it was Brenner Contras V4 and V3.
Not sure about what props was in use.

Why I ask is because we got some complaints from a neighbor to our field (it is a full scale airfield by the way) that my Galactika with
Hacker Q80-14XS and Falcon V2 Electric carbon 21x14 disturb (the sound) when flying.
In my ear it is rather quiet when flying - some more sound of course when adding power at vertical up maneouvres.

I figured I would prepare some so I know what my options are regarding really quite setup, if I need to change to that.
So I have some action to suggest if it is more complaints.

Thank's
Bo

Are you running or have you tried a soft mount?
Ralph Schweizer makes a very nice one for the Q80
Perhaps people might be hearing fuselage resonances at certain throttle settings ?

Hi ltc,
No I do not use a soft mount.
Could be some resonance in fuselage at som RPM's, hard to tell. I have not suspected that myself.
I will check out Ralph Schweizer homepage and see what he as for soft mount.

2nd item down on this page

RSnewproducts

i believe he also sells various length soft mounts to adjust spinner distance as well

I just received an RS adjustable soft mount for the V4 Contra (will be going in a Mriya biplane)
Its a work of art when you look at it!
He does amazing work ...

I feel that Mejzlik 21x13 is the most silent prop for the Q80-14xs. But with regards to noise I did not find any electric set up with big props noisy at all, with exeptions for Hacker geared engines which are in lack of lubrication

Hi,
Yes that is the motor mount I have in my Galactika (since 2015 but bought this carbon motor mount from F3A Lorenz).

I will ask RS (Ralph Schweizer) what rubber mounting solutions he has for this mount.

thanks,
Bo

Hi Espen,
I might try that prop (I have not experimented with other props at all with my Galactika+Hacker Q80-14XS so far).

How about 3 blade prop - is it in general quiter then a 2-blade prop - anyone know?
There is a nice 3-blade prop that RS (Ralph Schweizer) sell:
RS-Page
First image, it is for Q-80-14XS (that I have) and they write that Stefan Kaiser use this 3-blade prop (but with Hacker Q80-14XS Sensitrol motor+ Sensitrol ESC).

I use a 19 X 13.5 3 blade prop that is extremely quiet, in front of a Hi Max 6330-210 Pro.

I use a Plettenburg Advance with the 19x13.5 Falcon 3 blade and it is very quiet.

1+ For the Plettenberg Advance and Falcon 19x13.5. I was using that combo on a Krill Spark. It was nice and quiet with good downline braking, battery consumption went up by about 400 mAh but maybe I just needed to work on throttle control...

Currently using an Adverrun contra mounted on 4mm aircraft ply running Mejzlik props 22/20F 22/22R and so far it seems pretty quiet to me. However, I haven't had it tested using a decibel meter.
