Default AXI 5330 8mm shaft

Just courious if anyone out there is using the new 8mm shaft in place of the supplied 12mm one? I just wondered if these things are strong enough for the size props we are using in pattern? I believe it is solid aluminum and not the hardened steel shaft that a lot of other engines/motors have. The 12mm works fine, but it would be nice not to have to worry about drilling all the props to 12mm.

Thanks,
Emory

Hi Emory,
I've been using the 8mm shafts for over a year now. Initially, I had a 12mm shaft turned down and re-threaded. Later, I purchased several of the 8mm replacement shafts from Hobby Lobby. I'm running these on 5330/18's on 10S with 18x10 and 18x12 APC-E props. No sign of problems at all. Appx. 2100 watts .

Thanks for sharing, Ed. It's good to hear that you haven't had any troubles with that shaft. Anyone else out there using the 8 mm shaft or has everyone else been using the 12mm?

Thanks,
Emory

I've got it on my f3a, only have 45 flights on it, but haven't had any issues with it.

I have the 8mm shaft on my 5330-F3A motor and it works fine. Also, the DuBro 8mm X 1 prop nut fits the shaft if you don't want to run a spinner

FYI, I sheared one this weekend while tightening it- firm but not "gorilla tight". I had drilled and tapped this shaft for a 10/32 tru turn spinner - so I'm sure it was weaker than the stock shaft which comes tapped for a 3mm bolt. I think in the future I'll attach my spinner with a smaller bolt rather than re-tapping the motor output shaft.
