Default 90-110 Size Electric Power-Setups?

Hi Guys,
I am looking to possible get a 90-110 size plane next and would like to know what motors are pilots using in these size planes? I'm looking for motor, controller, battery and prop set-ups please.

Thank you, Blake Hilson

Look at bottom of page: http://www.gregcovey.com/Glow_Conversions_Made_Easy.htm

One suggestion: http://www.modelflight.com.au/eflite..._brushless.htm

50 - 70 watts/lb = min for light park flyers
70 - 90 watts/lb = trainer and slow flight
90 - 110 watts/lb = sport aerobatic & fast scale
110 - 130 watts/lb = advanced aerobatic & high speed
130 - 150 watts/lb = light 3d and ducted fans
150 - 200+ watts/lb = unlimted 3D

Hi Blake,
What plane are you going to be flying ..... and what sort of flying do you intend to do (sport, 3D, pattern) ?

Hi Ed,

I am looking into getting a pattern plane to compete with. I know the Wind-110 uses a Hacker 16L set-up, but I was wondering what
other set-ups pilots are using with great success.

Thank you, Blake

Blake,
I have experience with an E Flite Power 110 running on 8S in a GP Venus II, H9 Showtime 90, and Flition Inspire 90. Also a Neu 1512/1.5Y+6.7.1, a Hacker C50 10XL+6.7:1 or an AXI 5320/28 would be good candidates for an 8S setup.
This plane looks to be very similar in size and weight to my I-90.
You might pick up a few ideas here:

Ed

This might also be a good choice for a 90 size "pattern" model:

Blake,

I have had good luck with the following:

Eflite 110
Turborix 70amp HV ESC (cheap compared to others)
APC 17x12e
I use 8 and 9 cells (4000 to 5000 mAh, 18c). Two 4 cells or three 3 cells in series.
Pulls around 50 amps.
Plane is an old Modeltech Saphir II. 1000 sq.inches. Weighs 9 lbs without the batteries. I used to have a Bully LS 1.2 RE two stroke
pattern engine in it with a Bolly 480 carbon muffler.

If flies just as good with the electric set-up. Flights are just as long 9 to 10 minutes.

Thanks guys for all the help!!! Its definitely appreciated..

Are there any other Motor choices out there besides the ones that have already been mentioned? Or am i kinda limited to motor selection at this time for this particular size?

Thanks for the help,
Blake Hilson

Scorpion motor
CC 85HV ESC
on 8S with a APC 17x8

= enough power to take a 9lb 69" QQ yak to the moon.

I cant remember....I think its a 4020....ill check and let you know the exact one.

The first time we took it out, edge5foamy hammered the throttle to take off, and it pulled the prop off.
We reinstalled it tighter, and he took off, pointed the nose straight up and it rocketed straight up....fast

I dont know how to explain it other than it is BADASS!!!! I dont think either one of us has gotten it up to full throttle.

I can tell you this....if I build any more quarter-scale electrics. Its getting the same motor for sure.
Id say its like putting a YS 180 in that 69" yak is the best way I could describe it.

If you put it in something like that sebart wind 110....it would have MORE than enough power to fly P07, or any other sequence for that matter.

I think you could fly a 10lb 2m plane on that setup, and get performance to match some of the 10s setups.

We were going to let QQ fly it at SEFF so he could see if he liked the setup, but he flys different mode than us, and we didnt get a chance to switch the radio over for him.

Im seriously considering building the SebArt Katana 120, and putting that setup in it. I have no doubt its more than enough power for the plane.

Must be bigger than that. I have a 4025-10 which puts out 1400 watts from 6S turning a 13x8 prop.

Hmm.. I cant believe i didnt think of scorpion motors myself..lol... I had one in my Fliton Element 30 and it was a BEAST of a motor!...I will definitely look into powering whatever plane i deside on with a scorpion motor for sure.

Heres the vid me and my friend shot of the Element with the Scorpion motor in it.

Hi, Blake,

I use Hacker C50-13L, Jeti Spin55 (w/ BEC, no rec battery here), APC 17x8E, and 8S or 7S TP5000 V2. This setup is for a Oxai Impression 90 w/ 2 x 20g servos on ali. 7S has enough power but 8S is better in general. But for the Oxai Impression, lighter is better.

In my opinion, 90-110 size pattern plane is no a really good size for electric conversion. It gets over-weight very easly. I had to eliminate the rec battery to get the wing loading I wanted, but the Spin55 from time to time gave me some troubles. Fliton's Inspire90 is an exception, you may wanna chk that out.

I will definitely be looking at the Fliton Inspire 90 as a definite possible choice for my airframe. But for now im just trying to figure out whats going to power whatever airframe i decide on. I definitely think 8s will be the ticket but i just am trying to research all my options for motor and esc possiblites. Cost $$$ ofcourse will have an influence on my decision but at the same time i dont mind spending a little bit extra $$$ to get the relliability, quality and performance im looking for. So basically im just trying to explore ALL of the options available on todays market, so that when i do make my decision it will be a wise one.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Blake Hilson

I'll just take my hat off. What a nice flight!! How do yo keep that small pattern plane that stable in hover? I have tried my Katana50S (Which is approx the same size (Atlas 4020-16, 15x8, 6 cell 2200mAh) in hover, but I think I'm just not skilful enough - LOL! You don't even need a runway. Nice!

Thanks for the nice compliments. I definitely appreciate it.

Actually ALL pattern planes hover and or do moderate 3D with ease. Most people think pattern planes are pretty limited when it comes to anything outside of pattern but from the past 3 pattern airplanes ive owned ive learned they actually can preform moderate 3d very well. Think about it, pattern planes are usually setup to draw perfect lines in the sky. With that you need to have the motor thrust PERFECT, a symmetrical and sleek fuesalage & wing airfoils, TONS of power for all your vertical manuevers and in most cases today all the pattern planes are swinging HUGE props. So all these features definitely make it possible to being able to do (off the wall) knd of manuevers that arent typically assoiciated with pattern. The only thing that can get you in trouble ofcourse is the control surface size. You just have to be 2 steps ahead of your plane because you dont have huge surfaces to save you from a late input..

Thanks agian,
Blake Hilson
