For all pilots who have been flying electric for awhile:
When at a contest do you charge all your batteries for the days rounds
in the morning or charge shortly before each round.

Whenever you can!
Its not useful at all to "top up" or wait to charge right before a round, if you charged the pack the night before its just as good as if you charged it right before a round. A healthy lipo has a self discharge of maybe 1-2% per month, so overnight or even after a couple of days you are in the 1/10th's of a % capacity loss from self discharge
When you are consuming 400-500 mAh per minute in flight (almost 10/second) on average that little extra you put in by topping up is gone in a matter of seconds.

Thanks Chad,
Thats good to know. I'm new to electric pattern and was wandering because
some of the fields we fly at have no electricity for charging but I have enough
batteries for four rounds, so I'll just charge them the night before.
Thanks

You should be good to go for 4 rounds BUT if we are together and a fifth round comes up, you always have an invitation to use my generator if need be. It can handle four charges with no strain. I got the Honda 2000 generator and justified it because it will run a 110 AC unit at home - Came in handy after Ike last year - I'm praying I don't need to use it this year for that.
Also Nederland and Crowley I think provided a big industrual generator for use last year. Jetero, and Larks(us
) have electricity.
Also if you really wanted to you could get a deep cyle marine battery. Several people tried them at first and although they work of they are limited to just a few charges before they need recharging themselves. But with 4 packs 1 battery would be cheap insurance for a single recharge during the day.

ps you gonna make it to Jim Sheffields the last weekend of the month. i am hoping to
