Had a beautiful day yesterday and managed to get the first four flights on my Wind 50. Very happy with the way it flies but the vertical performance seems a little down on my Angel 50. I am running exactly the same motor (reccomended Hacker) ESC / 6S 5000 as the Angel but with a 17x10 APC instead of the 16x10 on the Angel. Any thoughts on propping? What are you guys using? The Wind fuselage does have more volume than the Angle and the Wind is a bit heavier, any advice appreciated.

Bit late joining this party but mines nearly ready to go.
Couple of things to check. Did you remove the 'blanking parts' in the lower half of the first fuse former? Looks like the are 'ready' to be removed but no mention in the manual - would seem to increase cooling?
Also, the Sebart dealer said he'd send an ideal prop. Turned out to be a wooden Xoar 16x8 - thoughts??

I haven't removed mine. I think there were some posts a while back to the same effect. To the extent the former forces air up and around the ESC and batteries, it's beneficial.
16x8 will be very slow/underpowered. I'm on 16x12 and right at 70-75A.

Another Wind test flown! Four flights, A50-16S, XB-70, Turnigy 6s 5000 & 16x10 apc-e. Bit nose heavy with pull-pull rudder so may move that back otherwise flies very nicely. 7 mins of big loops, big climbs, lots of power on etc... left battery at about 40%. 7 mins of pottering and battery at 70%, so could easily do two flights.
Very pleased, will just sort c of g, maybe try xoar prop & make for an easier battery access/change.

Hi Everyone,
I am after a bit of advise. I now have 4 flights on my Wind with Hacker A50 16S and a Hacker X-70 SB Pro ESC, turning a 16x12 prop.
The weather is getting hotter in Houston and today was windy. So I was using a bit more throttle than usual. Flight 4 I thought I witnessed the throttle hesitate. I had been using brake, so the next flight I didn't. Towards the end of the flight the plane wouldn't respond to full throttle, so I landed. On the ground the throttle was indeed intermittant, the battery voltage was fine under load, at 25 volts. The ESC was hotter than I would like, and I suspect that there is possibly a temperature cut off. I think I need to install a 100 amp controller.............
Has anyone else seen this problem? On the last flight I flew and was careful not to use too much throttle, and I had no problem at all,
Thanks in advance,
Nick Marson

Arch,
I guess a Castle 75 would be a good bet for me. The problem has to be with my speed controller, I think I will go with a Castle,
Thanks Arch,
Nick

I put 4 flights on my Wind 50 this morning.
Hacker A50-12S
Hacker X75 Pro ESC
APC 15x10 E
Turnigy 5S1P 5000 25C batteries
First flight, I flew for around 5 minutes and low/med power settings since the batteries were brand new. A couple full power climbs show good power, but it needs to go faster if it's windy, so a 16x12 or 15x12 ideally would be better. Also discovered my initial setup for control throws was WAY off. Elevator and rudder were both double what they needed to be. This pack only took 1800mah after that flight. Adjusted control throws and expo for a better setup.
Second flight was much better. Even at these reduced rates, the control authority is impressive. Knife-edge loop was done with 1/2 rudder deflection. I flew with the throttle up more to get some extra speed in the windy conditions, but I still need more speed for most flying. Snaps and spins are VERY nice and clean, although I did need to switch to higher rate rudder and elevator for the spins. Some quick balance tests showed I'm right where I want to be. This pack took 2510mah after 6 minutes of more aggressive throttle use. Battery was still basically cool to the touch. I need to get a digital thermometer to monitor battery and motor temps.
Third flight, reduced the elevator and rudder throws again. Got the feel I was looking for finally. I may bump up the expo a bit too. Roll rate feels good without being fast, but I'm only moving them MAYBE 15 degrees except for snaps. Quick check on knife-edge mixing has it coming to the canopy and rolling out slightly on right rudder, and pushing to the belly with left rudder. Probably the crosswind helping that a little. Not going to mess with it until I can fly on a calm day. Aileron mixing was resolved with 2%. Tried to fly the FAI rolling figure M. Man that was ugly, but not because of the airplane. It'll do it just fine.
Fourth flight, I left the throttle up pretty high for the 6 minutes I had on the timer. Really wanted to get a feel for the airplane at higher speeds. It really tracks well, draws very good lines, but the red/white/blue scheme leaves something to be desired for visibility against a cloudy background. Going to have to do something about that. The bottom of the airplane shows up great though. Also need to paint the canopy. Don't like how it looks in flight. Put in more expo on the rudder (I think I'm at 65% now) to help smooth out the point/slow rolls. Getting closer. Need to do a LOT of mechanical trimming on control throws, centering, etc.. I con't care for how all the electronic adjustments I've made are affecting resolution and such. Put 2780mah back in this pack, but admittedly I spent MOST of the flight at 85% power or higher.
Overall I'm VERY happy with the airplane. I've got to play with some props to get the speed up. The airplane just feels like it wants to be flown faster than I'm used to with a pattern airplane. My only real complaint is the main landing gear. It's VERY spongy. Landings are nice and don't bounce, but the gear squats a great deal on even the softest of touchdowns. Flying this one REALLY makes me want to fly a 2M Wind S Pro to compare.

Doug,
Thanks for the report, congratulations on the first flights and glad to hear you are happy with the Wind! Sebart's recommended throws on elevator/ailerons are silly.Ithink you'll be really happy once you get the mechanics sorted out. Idida lot of tuning there when putting mine together and think it's really paid off. For what it's worth, I'm just under 20 degrees both ways on both ailerons and elevators, 25% expo on each and 50% expo on rudder. Ifly all maneuvers with this same setup.
Please keep us posted on your propeller experiments.
Where are you ending up on CG so far?

Doug,
The 2m Wind is AWESOME!!. As weird as this sounds, you will get used to the color scheme. It took some time, but now I can even see it on a cloudy day. For me its hardest to see on a bright blue sky day with some patchy white puffy clouds, but its not bad.
Painting the canopy defitely helped the presentation in the air.

Need help here
I've got The Miss Wind with the Hacker50 setup however the screws for the engine are too short - The firewall alone takes up 3/4 of the screw and does not bite into the engine. Did you use other screws?

Are you sure you didn't mistakenly use the motor mounting screws for the landing gear attachment?
My CG is right at the wing tube currently. On a 45 upline, rolling inverted causes the airplane to just barely start to drop the nose. I might want to move it forward a little, but maybe not. I really need to fly it on a calm day before I worry too much about flight trimming. Yesterday was windy and bumpy. It was very obvious though that the 15x10 isn't the right prop for windy conditions.

Doug,
He is referring to the Miss Wind, the biplane.
amarin2437
A actually discovered the same issue on mine when I was putting it together yesterday. Fortunately I had some 4mm X 12mm bolts that worked great instead. The bolts that come with the motor are too short,

Hello Guys,
Thank you all for the great tips on the Sebart Wind 50E.
I'd maiden mine today, very nice aircraft to fly just I no proper power. Only needed two clicks of elevator trim up.
I'm using 6s 4000mah lipo, 65A ESC, GForce G60 (50-65-320KV) 1200watt. 16X10 prop.
During the ground run, got 40 amps, 1000watt and 7300RPM.
The aircraft was at trainer speed and had to fly at full throttle the whole time.
I am from sunny South Africa, 5600ft above sea level and temp at 25 degrees celcius.
What can I do to fly at half throttle and have enough speed and if I want power can just open the throttle and climb like a home sick angle but still want to run the 6s 4000mah lipo's?
This is my first electric aircraft, so this is new to me.
Kind regards,
