Hmmm, like that T-can too. Haven't tried one yet. How did you attach it, what incidence did you use, and did you notice any difference?
Thanks!

Carbon rods fit tight in a balsa plate. Very simple, very effective. Incidence is about - 0,5 degrees relative to the stab. All my models where I tried a T-Can there was a substantial improvement. So with this one I even did not fly without it.

Wow, at first I thought it was a standard upgrade of some kind! Great job!
Could you maybe post a rough sketch with dimensions of the T-can as you made it on your Wind?

Hi Bane,
The size is not that important. This one is 20cm wide by 10cm deep at the root. It is about the size of the first one that CPLR used first on the Oxalys. Feel free to experiment. Bigger ones work better. I equip my 2m models with 30cm T-Cans.

STMDK: I have ordered one and wait to test it
tclaridge: I had also a thermal cut without having any damage to my plane. After that i decide to put on the Jeti wipes so i can manage the temperature better. When i test it in a hot day and with high loads on the controller it didn't make me again any thermal cut.
I am too busy with my work these days but i wll manage to find some time to get of the cowl and take some photos with my solution.

Finished my Wind 50e this evening. It's now ready to fly. Hacker A50-16S, Castle Ice 75 ESC, and Zippy 5000mah 5S packs. I'm going to try the 5S setup first since I already have the packs. Plane weighs exactly 7lbs with the Zippy pack installed. Hopefully will fly tomorrow. Here is a picture next to my 2m Wind. Hopefully next weekend I'll have my 2nd 2m Wind flying and will get a picture of all 3.

Hi Arch,
well on 5S and A5016S it will fly but will be seriously underpowered. Lorenz F3A is suggesting an A5014S with 16x8 as a good 5S setup for this plane. But I would suggest going with A5012S and 15x10 or 16x8 in order to match the power feeling as on a 2m bird.

I think Velco is right. I have moved the power train from my Angel 50 into my Wind 50. Hacker A5016S / Rhino 5000 6S. The Wind 50 has more fuselage volume than the Angel 50 and I am changing from a 16x10 on the Angel to a 17x8 on the Wind 50 which should give lower airspeed but more pull. Plesae let us know how 5S works but prepare to be dissapointed.[
] I think I would buy a couple of 6S packs before changing the motor as Velco suggests.

Well another cheaper alternative would be Scorpion 4025-12 (440kV) on 16x10 or 17x10 (if 17" can fit). I would rather buy a new motor instead of new packs. I used to have special packs for each model I had and now I am more into having one type of pack (5S 5000) for all of my planes and so far it works much better this way. Just looking after all those different packs is time consuming and annoying.
And Arch I am very much looking forward to your flight report about Wind 50 and especially how it compares to 2m Wind. Ms Wind I also own is an excellent plane but it flies very much different to a monoplane so I am considering selling it and taking Wind 50 if it compares better to a 2m plane.

I am running the Scorpion 4025-12 / 17x10 APCE in my Wind 110 but on 6S. It is marginal on this setup on windy days and there is no way it would work on 5S in the Wind 110. Again I feel it would be underpowered in the Wind 50, this model really needs 6S for best performance. I agree with you on pack standardisation as I run mostly 6S.

I understand I might need to change to 6S, however, I have the 5S packs and wanted to try them first. I have talked to people flying the Osiris from 3D hobby shop on 5S and its a rocket ship, but you have to find the right prop. Weights are within 1 oz of each other, so we'll see what it does. If I have to go to 6S, I will, but my goal is try to make it work with my current 5S packs.

John,
My Wind 110 came at 4,4kg and my guess is that yours with a lighter motor and 6S packs is not less than 3,8kg. At the same time Wind 50 should not come over 2.9kg ready to fly so there are 900g of difference which is huge! Also I have used both motocalc and Scorpion calc to simulate the numbers especially what comes out with A5016S on 6S and 16x10 (btw I had this setup on one of my Yaks so I know exactly) and 4025-250 on 5S and 17x10 and the difference is marginal in the favor of 6S setup.
On the other hand if one wants extra power in that case A5012S or 4025-10 on 5S and 16x10 can be used but expect the Amps to be >80. I have this setup on my Ms Wind 50. Luckily Ms Wind can fly much more slowly than a monoplane therefore I am between 40% and 70% throttle all the time and will therefore switch to 15x10. As I expect Wind 50 to be considerably accelerating in down lines this setup is not advisable from this point of view.
And Arch the 5S setup on the Osiris is with A5012S and yes it is a rocket setup, just very high Amps.

Hello,
Just a couple quick comments. I have seen the Osiris fly on a 5S pack at about 1400 watts and it flies very, very well. However, keep in mind that this particular plane was right at 6 lbs or maybe slightly less. I was surprised to see the Wind S50 come in a 7 lbs. I have an Angel and its RTF weight is right at 6 lbs with a 5S 4000 mah pack. My general thinking is that a 5S pack is good for a 5.5-6 lb bird. Any heavier weight would probably require a 6S pack.
Good luck,
Teo

I just weighed both models and the Wind 50 is 3.240g RTF with the Rhino 5000 6S and the Wind 110 is 3.750g with the same battery. All the radio and servos are the same so the only difference is in the weight of the airframe. I really wouldn't have expected there be 900g of a difference as that is a heck of a lot of balsa!

Well John I was very close on your RTF weight for Wind 110 and I must say I am surprised about about your RTF weight for Wind 50! My presumption came from the info on Sebart site where Wind 50 is declared 2300g + bats and so far info on the site was very precise. You are using slightly heavier batteries than you really need (6S 3700mAh would be more than enough) but that is only some 120g extra.
Still 500g is a lot and I must say that so far motocalc has been very good in comparing setups especially if you know the real life numbers for a certain setup. As I have already said I had owned A5016S on 6S and 16x10 and if I remember correctly it was 7100rpm and 56A with 6S Rhino 3700 25C. Also the flying weight of Angel was 2850g, and that setup was very, very good.
Well, if Wind 50 is that much heavier than Angel in that case A5012S or 4025-10 with 16x10 is the only way to go for 5S setup.
edit:
Just weighted my MsWind 50 and it is RTF 3065g : Hacker A5012S, Hacker 70A SB ESC, 5S Rhino 4900mAh with 5,5mm bullet connectors, 16x10 Turnigy LE, larger wheel spats and 70mm wheels, Sullivan rear wheel, pilot figure and stickers

My Wind 50e with the 5S 5000 pack is right at 3170 grams. I'll put some time on it this weekend and play with props. With the 16S I should be able to run a larger prop than the 12S, so I'm starting with that idea and working from that. If I end up with a 6S setup, so be it, but I'm going to play with the 5S setup first.
I have yet to see an Osiris at 6lbs. Everyone I've talked to and everyone I've seen (2 of them) are closer to 7lbs ready to fly on 5S. Granted they are all running larger 5S packs as they are the ones they are flying in their 2m ships. I should be able to run a 17X10 or so on the 16S without any issues. So it might draw some more amps, so be it, I don't plan on staying at WOT very often anyway.

Arch,
if you definitively want to try it with A5016S in that case no less than 17x12 ideally 18x12. Even with 18x12 your amps will be still in mid 60s. If an 18" prop can fit you will be fine with power, while 17x12 would be OK in low wind conditions.

Thanks for the info. I'll play with it and see how it works. As I said, I'm not against a 6S setup. I just don't want to go that route unless I have to, and I'm certainly not going to hurt anything playing around with props and such to see what it does. I have no illusions of this flying as well as the 2m does. This is something to play with over the winter.

Arch, hopefully you will have the chance to fly your Wind 50E in the next few days. I encourage you to give us all an in depth evaluation based on your flights with the 5s Zippy pack. I'm considering either the Wind 50E or the Osiris. I'm sure at this point either one would be a good choice. Sometimes it's difficult to compare "apples with apples"! The weight of both planes is probably close to 7 lbs. I agree with you, I would prefer to run the 4000 5s and 5000 5s packs I already have. Thanks___Everette

From what Arch has posted regarding his weight 3170g it looks like our airframes are pretty much identical. The weight difference of 70g can be explained by him using a 5S battery as opposed to my 6S, maybe Seb is being a bit optimistic about the weight?

Ok, just flew my baby Wind. Plane flies really nicely. As many have said above, it is currently under powered. I flew it with the only prop that has arrived so far which is a 17X8, and I knew that was going to be too small. I was only drawing about 43amps. Going to a 17X12 or so should help the performance as after 5 minutes of flying around nothing was even remotely warm, so I can start bumping the props up. It was really windy here, approaching 20mph, and the plane still flew pretty well. I have some larger props enroute to try, but that'll be after I get back from a trip for work next week. I'm also going ahead and getting a couple of 6S packs which I know will fix the issue, but I'm still going to do some playing to see if I can find a 5S setup that will work. Very happy with how the plane flies, but wasn't able to really do any trimming in the wind. Took about 2 clicks of up elevator and 1 click of left aileron, but those are subject to change, simply because of the conditions.

Hi guys and HarrisG
I just recieved mine today !!!!
I got it by this dealer here in Greece www.rcsamos.gr.
It's a great kit and after a lot of discussions with HarrisG we ended to the following setup.
Motor: Turnigy 50-65A 400kv (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=4914)
ESC : Turnigy Brushless ESC 85A w/ 5A SBEC (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10331)
Servos 3 x Align D610 and 2 x Align D520.
Power Pack: I will go with 6S 4000mAh that I own already.
One of my friends is flying all Sebart's 50's (Angel, Wind and Sukhoi). Yesterday we were discusing it, the story of how these planes are flying and his thinking is that Angel is OK, Wind S is more F3A and Sukhoi is for FUN. Actually the servo selection is making the difference.
See ya guys in the next days with foto's.
