Default Xigris C1 motor/ESC choice

Going to build a Xigris C1 this winter and looking at motors.

Which one should I go for and why?

Plettenberg 30-10 Evo
Hacker C50 14XL
Axi 5325

ESC's: Jeti Spin 99, Kontronik Jive 80 HV or Schulze 80KA?

And yes, I value opinion as much as fact, in fact I value opinions more :-)

Hi Jon,

You're going to open a can of worms with this thread..

I use an AXI 5325/24 with a Spin 99 in my Spark. I'm very happy with the reliability and performance. This combination is not lacking in any way whatsoever.

Down under most people are using the Pletty or Hacker. I chose the AXI because of price, quality, low maintenance and mounting options. I have been told that AXI is an unproven package but my experience with them is very good.

At the end of the day it really gets down to personal preference but you would be wise to stick with proven packages.

Cheers,
Jason.

I've been using the Plettenberg 30-10 EVO with the YGE 80HV controller for two seasons now in two Integrals. Knock on wood, not a problem. Over 250 on one and 135 on the other.

I plan on using the same combo in my new Xigris C1 which I hopefully will have in my possession in the September/October timeframe ready for gear installation.

I've run the Hacker C50 13XL with Hacker Master Spin 99 in the past, as well. Had several hundred flights on a pair of those, as well with no problems.

I switched to the Pletty for ease of maintenance and it is quieter.

Hi Jon,
When I switched to electric 6 years ago, I bought two Hacker C50-14XL Comps with the Hacker-Jetti Acro 90 Comp controllers. They're all going strong and one of them will be in the Xigris C1 I'm going to build this winter. I wouldn't recommend the non-comp version of the Hacker which are known for magnet separation caused by heat problems. The Comp version has a built-in fan that eliminates the problem. Based on what I've seen, if I were going to run an outrunner, it would be the Pletty 30-10 Evo. Nothing wrong with the Axi, but I think the Pletty is both lighter and more powerful. I think the Hacker C50-14XL Comp still has a leg up on the Pletty with a little less weight, a little more power, and a little less drain on the batteries. OTOH, no gearbox to maintain is a strong selling point for the Pletty. Hope this helps.

Great advice people, keep it coming :-)

About the C50 Comp 14XL, is it really lighter and more powerful?

What kind of prop sizes are people running on their Plettenbergs?

Some of us are running 20.5X14's . I think others are running 21X14's ?

And some are running the RASA folding props. Chad Northeast can probably chime in on the folding prop selection.

The spinner mounted setup of the Plet is lighter than the Hacker.
On the same prop the plet turns a little bit faster and could be loaded more than the hacker.
