there is nothing I do not like on this plane, and if it flies just 50% of how the toxylen flies... it will be a winner. Even though Mayr took the Toxiris to the worlds he never flew it. can't wait for the flight reports<div>

Hey Marcelo,

He had just received the plane and had very few flights on it prior to the WCs... I did see him practice with it a couple of times though and liked the presentation and look of the plane. Just a few more weeks (if I can get an ESC for it - NO one has any in stock!!).

I have a esc you can borrow Derek. I have a few standard Jeti 90's and a Castle Ice 80 that hasn't been back yet but works fine. I gotta get you the Emotion bags also. lol

Thanks Chris! I appreciate the offer. I just bought a Jeti 99 Spin that I found... it should be here next week.

Anyone have a Pletty Advanced for sale? Need one for my Toxiris...

haha. Good luck finding someone that would sell their Advance. It's really a great motor. Glad I switched to it. Someone is selling two evo's. I am selling a Q80 for give away prices really. Haven't seen much else for sale.

Any more progress on your plane Derek? I am just waiting for my Pletty Advanced to arrive. I hope to fly mine before the year ends.

I've finished the gear, wings and stabs - all are mounted. I'm now working on the rudder servo and cables - this should be finished on Friday... last thing to do is mount the motor and battery tray - hopefully by the end of the weekend.

Flight reports please...
I have 20 flights on mine and am extremely pleased with the flight characteristics even though weather conditions have not been kind.
Weight was an issue but is now sorted.

My personal feeling on this plane was
1.It fly "super"slow
2.even airspeed is slow but all control still worked effective
3.The plane can did very well snap at low speed
4.Cause it's slow so it's not so good in strong wind

Basically it's magical plane......But you have to get use to it!!

I wish I could say I was done, Jayjay... [:@]

I've been busy repairing my Neptuno's landing gear/fuse after I ran out of battery and landed 4' short of the runway in weeds... almost done and then I'll get back to the Toxiris... this weekend for sure!

Finally flew my Toxiris today. Did 4 flights. Plane flies great. Set it up with the help of Roald Dogge who happens to be here on a "working" vacation. He is on vacation but I put him to work. Hehehe. The Toxiris is certainly capable of flying at very slow speed while maintaining very positive control. I am very happy with it so far. I will post more info as I get maore flights on the plane.

Having just got a 3rd hand Toxiris, I thought I'd look up what you guys had found out about it. I was a surprised to find so little. Is there another thread that I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Having flown one now for over 2 years I would recommend removing the winglets on the wings... they just add too much drag to the plane. I've been very happy with mine (will be selling it though as I do have a new plane) - it certainly is capable of any sequence and any maneuver.

barnowljenx 08-03-2014 01:42 AM

Derek

Thank you for your reply. One more question if I may, can you describe what differences there were once you removed the winglets - i.e. amount of battery used, any trim changes, any manoeuvre feel signficantly different etc.

Thanks in advance.

No noticeable trim changes without the winglets... and definitely a large decrease in battery used. I could not get through the F sequence with the winglets on and with them off there were no problems. If I flew like Gerhard - slow and close I'm sure it would not be an issue... but I don't. I don't fly far out either but it also helped when the wind was blowing... that plane is huge and when the wind is blowing it really does slow the plane down even more. No other major changes that I can thing of.

barnowljenx 08-03-2014 01:53 PM

Hi Derek

Many thanks for sharing your experience with the Toxiris. I will now seriously consider whether I can fly as Gerhard has designed the bird or whether to take off the winglets and fly faster. Good to know that you found no noticeable trim changes.

you may also want to try:

www.triple-m.net

That is Triple M which is Mayr's design company. Maybe you can drop him an email and somebody can answer you some questions on this plane which is a slightly simplified version of his Toxylen model (a beautifully crafted yet very complex wood airplane). The toxylen model was temporarily replaced by the 2m x 2m x 2m triplane called the trigantic, but seems like Mayr is back flying the toxylen again (or so he did at the EC). You have a top notch 100% current plane.

hope this works for you

barnowljenx 08-04-2014 01:58 PM

Hi Marcelo - thanks for the link. I've got it bookmarked for future reference.

Derek - I tried today to fly really slowly and see how I managed to control the aircraft. I am flying the FAI A14 schedule which is the lead in to P15 - same geometry but simplified manoeuvres. I found that I could control the aircraft quite well at this slower speed. The schedule took the same time despite the slower speed and the battery consumption dropped from over 80% to 62%. I will try removing the winglets after my next competition to see how it feels then. While I've still only flown the plane for 7 flights I'm beginning to find out where is the sweet spot and, I have to say, I'm beginning to quite like the way it flies when it's flown slowly.

Is anybody still flying a Toxiris in competition?

Peter
