Toxiris

Well, I flew the Toxiris today - 3 flights - excellent flying plane!! The first flight the CG was a little too far forward so I moved it back for the 2nd flight and that got rid of the pull to the canopy in the up line. I also modified my throws a bit - I had too much aileron and not enough elevator. I love the pace of this plane - and now I just need to trim it and get used to the motor (Pletty Advance)... the plane is very visible in the air.

I like the four picnic tables on top & bottom, perfect place for my cookies & cucumber sandwiches in between rounds ... :)

Adrian, do you put your cookies on the top side of the bottom picnic tables so they don't fall off?

Sandwiches on top & cookies on the bottom, my parents have taught me to finish my meal first, before dessert!

We shouldn't be taunting Derek's beautiful airplane. Looks great Derek! Hope it flies as well as it looks.

She flies great, Jim...

Derek is it really possible for lets say "normal pilots" to fly this plane as slow and close as Mayr makes them fly?

or is it required to be flown a litter faster and farther?

thank you

Marcelo,

Having flown the plane now for 6 flights I would say that for a normal pilot - no. An exceptional one - yes. The plane definitely flies slower than most other planes and it would take a lot of practice to get used to the little things that one must do to fly that slow and close.

I agree that the plane naturally flies slower than most and is very easy to slow down. Having said that, most of us mere mortals will fly it a little faster and farther out than Mayr but a little slower than we would fly most other planes. It is an excellent flying plane and I am currently building my second one. My first plane crashed because of a defective receiver battery.

I am just finalizing my setup as well as getting my cg and throws measured correctly. I should be able to maiden it this Saturday. One thing I noticed is that my new Toxiris is better painted than my previous one. The colors have been improved also with the red being brighter and the yellow being deeper. Overall a much better finish. Don't know why except maybe this plane comes from a newer batch. Anyone else aside from me and Derek have this plane?

4 more flights yesterday - playing with the CG some more... I moved the battery a little more forward and I think it helped. I'm still working on the snaps - they are pretty close now. Once I've got the plane trimmed out I'll post CG location. BTW, I have not touch wing incidence at all - I'm flying with it the way it was set at the factory.

Who makes the plane, where is it available, etc., etc., etc..

RE: Toxiris

Derek, please let me know where your CG ends up. I have 7 flights on my Toxiris and am finalizing the CG location as well. But so far, so good. This new plane seems to fly better than my old Toxiris for some reason. It is a very nice flying plane and is very easy to slow down. I will be flying this for our Nationals at the end of next month.

RE: Toxiris

I now have 12 flights on my Toxiris and it is flying very, very well. Am almost done with trimming it. My CG is 210mm from the leading edge at the root. For some reason, this plane flies much better than my first one. Now all I need is practice, lots of it. I am one happy camper...

RE: Toxiris

What is the aerodynamic reason behind those little wings above the "main"wing? Just curious..

RE: Toxiris

It is suppose to clean up the airflow over the tail surfaces to give positive control even at very slow airspeed. I honestly don't know if it works but the plane is very easy to slow down and can be flown slower than most. I am quite happy with mine.

RE: Toxiris

So maybe a good sizeable wing root fairing should accomplish the same. Just food for thought.
