21x14 or 20x13???

hello
I'm soon going to ordering a new plane and with that it will follow new motor and ++++.
so I'm think about getting one off the new light weight Hacker Q80, but they comming in diffrent types and KV!
I have in several years after I started to fly electric been using low KV engines and have use 21x14 .
But today the Apc 21x14 is discontinued and in fact I'm not wery happy with it as the tips seems to be to soft (and heavy)and making noise, the Falcon is a really good one but pricey and very fragile.
So what are you thougths, pro and cons between high and low Kv engines and 21 and 20 size propellers, i see that the Q80 is comming i several KV's.

My thoughts are higher KV=lower pitch=better breaking and lower pitch is lower torque.

Hello Rune....
I have the Plett 30-10 and Advance motors. I have used the Falcon 20.5x14.5 and the APC 21x14....I like the APC 21x14 a lot better. It has much better downline braking and the pace of the airplane is much better.
The APC 21x14 has not been discontinued but they have redesigned the prop for much quieter operation.
I had the earlier version....I threw it away after using the new version.
The new version has a thicker hub and thicker 'wings'...it is very stiff and does not flex.
Hope this helps a bit.

RE: 21x14 or 20x13???

Which 21x13 ?? APC has been selling 21x13WE and new one out is 21x13E.
Blade width is totally different.
If you look up Hacker A60-7S thread, someone mentioned 21x13E and 21x13WE.
For braking, I think 21x13WE should be better. Isn't it?

Dave,
I can't get the 21x14E anymore. Great Planes discontinued it saying "Discontinued by MFG".
APC doesn't show them anymore.

Trying to see if I can get 21x13E, 21x13.5E from APC. So far, none of the distributors carry these sizes.
Are you coming to Fort Scott or Hillsdale contests?

I wasnt directly thinking about a spesific prop, but was trying to get som input if a smal prop with hirger rpm or bigger with lower rpm was the best choise. I have today a Himax 210 in a Spark using both a Falcon 21x14(wery good and silent until I rolled the plane out and one blade hit the ground..silly me) but change to a Apc 21x14 , this does the job but have some noise from vibration.
In the new plane I thinking maybe using a Q80 13 xs(I think that is correct "name") that are with is it 220 kw, this should be a nice combo with a 20x13, but will it be better with a 21x14 and lower kw.

RE: 21x14 or 20x13???

I've got pretty much all the different diameter and pitch props, and I prefer the higher kv motors with the larger diameter and less pitch. Actually the one I always end up going back to is the 22x12 on 220kv. In all but the heaviest winds I prefer this prop. Gets more of a constant speed, at the end of the sequence has enough thrust to pull through the radius on top, downlines I don't use any breaking. Real heavy wind I'll use the 21x13.5. I just don't like the high pitch props. The axi at 235kv I used 22x11. 20" props I don't like at all.

][/quote]dont you get wery high amps with this big props and high kv engines??? or do you dial down the regulator??

RE: 21x14 or 20x13???

I use 3 different flight modes for various maneuvers. My throttle atvs vary between flight modes. Amps max out around 70. Sometimes up to 80 depends on how hard I get into the throttle. Masters I average around 3600mah, 4000mah on windier days. I don't really care what the amps drawn are, as long as I'm not burning up the batts by the end of the flight.

I'll rephrase that: As long as the amps are within my system perameters I don't care what the max amps are.

Just now I called APC and spoke with the engineer at Landing Products (APC) and was informed that the 21x14E indeed has been discontinued.
The reason is that the 21x14E was incorrectly labled as 14 pitch.
It is actually a 13 pitch.
The same prop has been re-labled correctly as 21x13E and is in production.
So......order the 21x13E and you will get the identical prop as the 21x14E that has been used all along.

Ihncheol....I'm still trimming the Nuance so I'll probably miss those contests.

strange..... it has been on the marked for years..and they had problems whit vibrations and what I heard from a friend this is not an issue with the 21x13..... but I think I most probably will go for a high rpm motor and smaller prop..but still thinking
