Which Honda Generator
 

I'm looking at getting a new Honda generator, to charge my 10s via 2 CellPro 10xp.....I would like to get as light as possible, so is the 1000 enough or should I get the 2000...it's not a question of $$ they are pretty close.....

I have already decided that it will be a Honda.....

The 2000 is the way to go, the 1000 is pretty limited in power, the 2000 will quite easily do two 10s packs at 10A or a single at 20A, while the 1000 will only do half of that. I also find the 2000 is quieter as its not revving as high for the same load. I had a 1000 for about a year then got the 2000 and never used the 1000 again :)

Get the 20i. You won't regret spending the extra money. Should you have a blackout at home, it will easily run your fridge.

Hmm..... I was going to post a couple of pics of my charge station for 'ya but cannot find them right now, maybe later.

Found the pics. Notice that I cut off the power leads for the 10XP and replaced them with Dean's connectors to get rid of the extra cord. If I wanted to pull one out of the charge station box, I put a Deans connector on the other piece of the FMA lead for a conventional banana plug connection.

I already have a couple 24 v psu I'm planning on two boxes (2 10xp in one and 1x8 CP AND 1x6CP in the other)all the parts have been order.....so all I need now is a new gen :)

I would also do some research. The Yamaha's out there currently have slightly better specs than the Honda's. I think those two are clearly the leaders in the generators and Yamaha came out with a new series last year. I have the 2000 and absolutely love it. 2# lighter than the Honda and 1db quieter. I'm sure Honda will come out with a new series that will probably be slightly better, but I would look very hard at the Yamaha. They also have a better warranty than the Honda, and one thing that I really like is they have a gas gauge that is visible by just looking at it.

Both are awesome, but when I did a lot of research last year, I went with the Yamaha and have been very impressed so far,

I bought a Champion 2000w Inverter Generator this year and found it is more than adequate for field charging. Very quite and easy to start and maintain. The cost is about 1/2 or 1/3 of the Honda.

Thank you.....but I have tried one of those cheaper gen ($700) and I sold it last summer.....It was a challenge to start every single times I needed it.....I used to have a 3000i Honda when I was racing and I know how sweet the good generator are.....so it will be either Honda or Yamaha.... ;)

Mine starts after one pull, most of time :-). Just pull it quickly. If the gas in the carburetor is allowed to burned off, then I need to pull it several times.

I have the 10i, I choose it because it was a little lighter and smaller. It will run 4x Hyperion Duo chargers as they charge 10s packs, each with a separate power supply and without even needing to rev up. Great charger!

I have a cheapo from harbor freight!!! The d&@$m thing don't start most of the time. Honda 2000 is the way to go

I too fell for the cheap priced Harbor Freight generator. It does not make clean power.

Ya I been looking at them now I need to go to the dealer....:) and both the honda and Yamaha ;)

been doing some reading as well on some RV's sites and the Honda seem to get really sick on ethanol fuel??? Is it the same for the Yamaha?

Definitely look at the Yamaha generators. We use them on our race bikes for tire warmers and the 2000 is a GREAT buy at around $100 more expensive than the Honda 1000.

I'll add my 2 cents worth. the Honda generators are fabulous. I have used them for years while working with a Police Helicopter unit, we carried them in our support vehicle.

NSW is 10% larger than Texas and we have lots of remote country areas that are inaccessible by road. . During different operations we would set up a remote command post with no access to the power grid.

The Honda generators performed flawlessly for years, operating lights, computers, radio equipment. You can also parallel them for extra output, and they are very quiet. Placed 10 meters away behind a tree you won't even hear it

I am sure the Yamaha ones are just as good, You won't go wrong with either.

The newer little hondas have throwaway blocks and arent rebuildale or nearly as durable as the old ones. They are still good but arent great like those of 10 years ago. I would look closer at the yamahas.

I have been running my Yamaha on premium gas, but it still has ethanol. Runs fine. I get about 7 hours on one tank if I'm charging.
