New Himax 6330 Pro motor

6 Attachment(s)
I received a prototype motor from Himax; HC6330 Pro (Kv=210) that I like to share.

This is a new design that will be released soon.
The first difference I noticed is the number of stators; there are 24 instead of 14 as shown in the picture.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930464

The new motor is 565 grams, compare with 627 grams of the old 6330-210 motor, that's ~ 2 Oz lighter!
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930465 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930469

Bench test data show their performance are almost identical.

Test condition:
CC ICE 80HV (identical settings for both motors)
Power Unlimited LiPo
Data were retrieved from the CC ICE 80HV data logger.

Note: according to the calibration test I did few years ago, the CC ICE 80HV data values in general are few percent higher than the true value, so these numbers are only good for reference for side-by-side comparison.

This is the plot using these data. No significant difference between the old 6330-210 and new 6330 Pro motors.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930470

Here is an in-flight data plot for one AMA Master sequence. The maximum current is 76.6A. Although the motor output is identical to the old 6330-210, the 2 Oz lighter did make difference! :D
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930477 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1930474

I also tested the OS ESC, they are perfectly matched. The braking power is significant better than the old 210 motor.
This motor has 24 stators and 20 magnets, so when program the ESC, the pole # is 20. Otherwise, all the other settings are identical to the 6330-210.

The 6330 Pro has identical dimensions as the old 6330-210, so it is a drop-in replacement. It also comes with 3-holes (Plett) and 4-holes (AXI. Himax....) mounting patterns.

In my opinion, no significant difference in performance, just lighter. But it is always good to have more power options.

I don't know the price and when will this new motor be released, call MPI if you are interested.

That's great news, i will order the new version as soon as it comes out.
Thanks for the test data.

Nice Luke. Great to see Himax continue to push themselves to create a new motor again. A great company to further their designs!!!

I'm a huge fan of the Himax 210.
They are readily available and are bullet proof.
Thanks Luke and Jarvis for the new design. 2 ounces is huge!
I'm sure our customers will eat this up.

any price and delivery date yet mike?

woodie 10-19-2013 07:16 AM

Luke, that's great news. Lots of Himax motors in use around here, glad to hear they will have new (lighter) models to choose from in the near future.

Hey everyone we now have these motors in stock
http://www.f3aunlimited.com/webstore...roducts_id=854
I see that the Himax website has the weight on it as 575 grams. This is the same as Luke's pic at the beginning of the thread. My shipment shows them to be 556 grams with the bolt and thrust washer attached. This is a huge savings over the older 14 pole version. The Pro having 20 poles is consistent with the Plettenbergs. What is different is the way it mounts. The Pletty is a front mount the Himax a rear mount.
We are working on getting the firewall produced for the BJ Craft planes to make the installs a lot easier.
I've included a picture for proof of the weight. I really llok forward to having these new motors on the demo planes soon.
Thanks, Mike Mueller

Not familiar with the OS ESC, could someone please provide a link?

Thanks

Great news that it's now available though.

New mounting kit from F3aUnlimited available now!!!

Okay here we go. We now have the front mounting hardware to go along with the front mount conversion kit.
http://www.f3aunlimited.com/front-mo...utrunner-motor
Thanks to Dave Snow for helping me with developing this mount. We feel it's very important that the rear has support as we all have seen way to many motors depart the planes in the past.
Been there done that....... did not like that!
These are now in stock ready to ship as well as the motors:

Jetdesign 08-02-2014 06:20 AM

Is the front mount bolting pattern the same as the Pletty Advance or different?

mups53 08-02-2014 11:49 AM

Same. The Pletty mounts work on the fronts. We just happen to like the newest design I have with the 4 hole pattern.
Mike

Jetdesign 08-02-2014 07:17 PM

Yeah that is a cool looking mount. I was just thinking about how the Himax can now be used as a backup for the Advance if necessary :)

mups53 08-03-2014 05:45 AM

I think pretty well Joe. Mike

picard1 10-22-2014 10:47 AM

I purchased the pro version and the front mount kit. What speed controllers would you guys recommend. I have a CC Edge 80A HV, but not sure if it will handle the amps, also there is mention of the OS 100AMP HV.

Thanks
Mike

woodie 10-22-2014 05:46 PM

Mike, either the CC 80A HV or OS 100A HV ESC should work fine. You will find descriptions here on RCU of both being used successfully.

Woodie
