Series Plug Short?

I was in the process of connecting my two flight batteries (2x 5S) to my series harness prior to a flight, and had a major short when I plugged in one of the legs. I've constructed the harness using 5.5mm gold Polymax plugs, and color coded each leg to avoid cross ups. I've used this harness many times in the past, and earlier this morning without incident. Does it matter what order you plug in the four legs?

Nope. Your wiring should be set up so that you cannot make a mistake. Post a pic. of the y-harness.

Here you go. The Dean's connector attaches to my arming plug arrangement. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2182389

Only thing I can see causing the problem is if you hooked a pack to the black jumper directly in error. I use EC5's in housings to keep this from happening.

Yes, if this configuration is correct, which I believe it is since it has been working great, is that I was distracted when I was connecting the batteries and just tried to put both legs of the jumper onto the same battery. The sparks and smoke was pretty exciting and I didn't have the presence of mind to double check what had happened.

I noted on one of your posts a couple of weeks ago that you were promoting a D6 contest. Did you make it to Albuquerque this past weekend? I was one of the two Phoenix guys there.

I use Deans on my batteries so this won't happen. Many a plane has been lost to pre-flight distractions.

Didn't go to Albuquerque. Will be at College Station contest in a couple of weeks. Then I'll make the Cajun Nats weeks later. What class were you in and how did you fare ?

I nearly lost a plane due to distraction, I forgot to strap the battery in so it came out of the model with the canopy. Lost the battery but thankfully fellow pilots spotted where the canopy drifted to and I got the plane(BJ Craft Agenda ) onto some bushes safely. Not a mark on it.

Distraction is not good.
