Hi JP
This one of the the best building threads I've ever read. Thanks for posting it. Mike Mueller |
For a neat installation I have been using some lightened carbon/balsa sandwich for the HV Digiswitch and the Aero Tech Voltage Regulator - F3A Unlimited source.
The Aero Tech VR is set to 7.6 volts using 2 cells of the propulsion pack as primary. The HV Digiswitch regulated to 7.4 Volts connect a 500 or 900 mah back-up batt. I reinforced the cowl with a piece of Bob Violett poly ply. Very light and durable. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...168238dba3.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8b4642457.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...951cb30a95.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...7c0229aebe.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...bf59f4b524.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...7ba563023a.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...33e55655e8.jpg |
Well, the IMMORTAL is completed ...
I weighted the plane ready to fly with a 5000 mah TP Prolite X battery. Prop is a carbon RS 21 x 14 with a Falcon 82 mm spinner FUTABA Rx 7003 SBUS, back up Batt Hacker 500 mah Total weight for the fuselage with batteries is 3756 g Wings 483 g and 496 g, plus struts and hardware 66 g So TOTAL = 4801 g That's a very good weight leaving the possibility to use 6000 mah batt. The weight would be 4900 g ..... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ed9e8caef0.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...619653e500.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...0dc9041ee5.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...0be9eca3cc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b41a9cf69.jpeg |
Hi,
Nice build/assembly, and very light total weight. Just curios - how will the ESC get good coolíng mounted there on the side if fuselage? /Bo |
Hi Bo,
I can't predict for the IMMORTAL, but with the NARUKE ACURACY in the same configuration, I never had issues with the ESC. We had 34 °C yesterday in Paris, and I flew 7 rounds with no ESC problems. I'm just cooling down the engine for 10 mn after the flights. As you can see, both engine and ESC colors changed ... after 1631 flights ... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8bd859c655.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...fbe30ad594.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c3e6e35b61.jpg |
With the Switzerland World Cup COUPE des ALPES and the French Championship in the books, I have time now to fly the IMMORTAL
I had 7 flights yesterday with this brand new plane, and it's very encouraging. There was too much wind and turbulence to fine tuning the plane, but I flew a couple of P19 and most of the F19 maneuvers. I'm specially happy with the spin, snaps, stall turn and rolling maneuvers. Plane seems to be very stable. I had no issues with the OS Belt Drive and FUTABA ESC, the outside temperature was 28 °C, but the internal cooling seems ok, and engine temperature after the flight comparable to what I have with the Acuracy. I started with a 21 x 14 RS prop, very quiet and powerful, giving a good braking action on the downlines, and will try other props. At 4800 g with a TP PROLITE X 5000, it's a great combo The recommended forward CG by BJ looks good for me. I have received the Version 4 of Bryan CTTG and will specially use the new Biplane Adjustment and Trimming Guide... this afternoon, weather permitting ... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...36a5b51797.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e329950f45.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6b736876c0.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b6d22b98eb.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...90229d1a4d.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...1c7953373e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...014e4795b7.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ed3bf4f449.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...2f13b40747.jpg |
Second test session today, delayed by the rain.
This gave me the time to read again the Bryan Hebert TTG ... I flew with different battery positions but went back to the initial one. The rudder is very sensitive, and I started to reduce the throw and adapt the expo. I installed the battery as high as possible as recommended by BJ, and with the front CG knife edges on both sides don't require any rudder to elevator or rudder to aileron mixing. Plane climb straight, and push slightly to the belly on the top of the vertical facing the wind when the speed decrease. The downline need the usual throttle to elevator mixing. I will continue tomorrow with the rudder and side thrust. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e983a9bd30.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...40c27bf70c.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...149b4ddb23.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...15eeb504de.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6303dd36e0.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c4a1a6fa69.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...1c97b14e92.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...4f75c80643.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8de2176517.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...a226a154ee.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...7032a12834.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...cad0b2b102.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...26d3fd3c73.jpg |
I logged a total of 40 flights with the IMMORTAL and I'm very happy with the flying characteristics.
I flew yesterday in quite no wind condition and today with a strong crosswind, 90 ° from flight path ...more challenging. I practiced P19 , F19 and specially the knife edge maneuvers of the last unknowns. They are a lot easier with this bipe I fly the plane with a more forward CG than the one recommended by BJ, and plane climb now vertical with no tendency to push to the belly on an extended vertical. The rudder is sensitive and very powerful as with the other bipes. I finally have some mixing - rudder to elevator and rudder to aileron - from another program memory I'm using , but in a very low percentage. Engine and ESC cooling are OK, but with the high temperature we have these days, I opened the engine cowl in order to increase the air intake. This is an amazing accurate plane to fly. I can't wait to fly her again tomorrow .... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e1336f42bc.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...324016e5f5.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...39d20a93ed.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...44b4e3631f.jpg |
After 100 flights with the IMMORTAL, I'm really enjoying this bipe.
With the OS BELT DRIVE, it's definitely a great combo. I'm interested in the ETERNITY evaluation by STEVE HANNAH equipped with the X DRIVE ... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e2c43bfb91.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...d76e988ff0.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b53b36db24.jpg |
Hi Jean-Paul I am nearing completion of the Eternity. I can’t wait to fly it. I am really encouraged by your flight report. I’ll post some updates on the Eternity thread shortly. I finally received my ESC so now I can start final equipment placement and installation. |
Hi,
Beautiful pictures. ;-) Arnaud |
With winter approaching really fast this year in France, we have already a lot of snow above 600 m altitude, the field is crowded at the first sunbeam 😀😀
Keeping enjoying the IMMORTAL Bipe https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...3b1c968ca0.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5a3c0f9e37.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...aaae7069ea.jpg |
JP: I'm just finishing an Eternity and have no experience with a flying stabilizer. Might you know how many degrees of movement (or alternatively, leading edge movement from neutral position measured in millimeters) you are using on the Immortal's flying stab for normal pattern flying, snaps and spins?

CG Location
I am just completing the build on my IMMORTAL and need to know the location of the CG from the leading edge of the bottom wing. I have seen reference to 130mm and 160mm. Please advise what the correct length is.

CG
The recommended one I'm flying with is 130 mm from the lower wing leading edge. Elevator throw If elevator servo linkage installed as per this BJ pic, Futaba servo 9170SV, ATV 100 %, AFR 75 %, expo 15 to 25 % is a good starting point. I just added an extra air exhaust on the cowl.
Could be necessary in hot temperature ... except if you are 7th on the flight line to practice  https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5c46a4dbe8.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...45cdf1637f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...fd189c857b.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c0d944e3b3.jpg |
I think Akiba has added a similar cutout in a similar location on his newest biplane, the Accel, which I believe is the successor to the Super Passion (which is similar to the Immortal/Eternity) Yoi can see the cutout on the Super Passion here in these photos http://akibarc.main.jp/sprpasn.html |
I decided to use the drag plate sent by BJ and had to trim down by four units the elevator.

Just in case spring would start in France .... , and temperature rise above 65 °F .... I added some extra vent to keep the engine cool.

Hi
I se you have change the motor in the drive , why? |
Testing higher KV engine to have an excess of power when needed in windy conditions ...
|
wich motor is that ?
|
Hello there,
I'm about to buy a used Immortal. do you recommend it in comparison with Invitation ? Any video of your flights ? Regards TM |
