E prop options
 

I'm running a 20.5x14 APC E prop on my AXI F3A E Integral. I would like to know if there are any props available that are a comparable size but lighter. Chris Moon loaned me a AXI 20x13 CF prop but I don't like the performance. I like the way the 20.5x14 hauls the lumber but I would like a lighter prop. The difference in weight between the AXI prop and the APC is 30 grams. TIA for your advise,

There is not a lot of options out there at the moment. Axi has their prop, Mezjlik (sp?) has some but all too low pitch IMO, Xoar has some e props, but again wrong sizes IMO. Rasa (Plettenberg) has a few choices, the most "modern" being a 20x15, which is a nice prop, but not great for all conditions.

APC has the best selection of sizes, just no way around it today!

Ther's a fairly new line of carbon props for both electric and gas from PT Models. See http://www.ptmodel.cz/index.php?cPath=22

If you email them they will give you the weight. I asked about the weight on some smaller props awhile back.

Have used a
MZ 20,5 * 12W
PT model 21*14
APC 20*15
APC 21*14

Despite being havier and therefore have to apply more rudder in all up and down movements, I like APC best for its performance and sound.

I notice some of the descriptions for the APC use Thin Electric, is this different than the regular electric?

Mike whats your amp draw on the 20.5x14?

The thin electric are the "standard" props, the other two types are the wides (with a W in the size) and the Slo Fly with an SF in the size.

So a 20.5x14 is a thin-electric prop. We used the wides a few years back, but in the end they just don't work out all that well (IMO anyway!) unless you like flying slow!

Hi,

Have done some testing of a carbon prop. It is a new design for e-motors from Mejzlik, fitted with a carbon spinner, also from Mejzlik.

Mine is a 21x14 ,pulling an Integral with Hacker C50-14xl comp. I have not measured it yet, but as an initial test, i like this prop.
Pulling me through P-09 ,Smooth and nice, similar to APC in most ways. Except lower weight, the noise is suprisingly lower, almost totally quiet i must say...

PS Got a new sticker to my second Integral :).

I've been using the Mejzlik 21X14 prop as well, and I like it too. Comparing it to the APC 21X14E it seems to have the same vertical, but the plane flies slower.</p>

Also, the previous poster is right. The Mejzlik prop is a lot quieter than the APC 21X14E, and it only weighs 3.15 oz, which is about 0.75 oz lighter than the APC 21X14E.</p>

The only downside is that it pulls an extra 300 mah out of my pack. My APC 21X14E draws about 3000 mah, and the Mejzlik 21X14 draws about 3300 mah, probably because it flies slower, and it takes me longer to fly the pattern. (AMA Masters 404)</p>

Hi,

I did some swapping today between APC 21X14 , APC 20X15 , and Mejzlik 21X14 just to see a close comparison in same conditions.

My personal experience : (Integral / Hacker combo )Flying P-09 prog.

* The APC 21X14 is good if you prefer a constant slow flying style, easier to maintain same speed through the manouvers , but more challenging in windy conditions.

*The APC 20X15 is good in windy condition, and if you prefer a faster flying style, but more challenging to keep at anconstant flying style/speed. ( require different throttle - management)

* The Mejzlik 21X14 put itself between the Apc`s, a good alround propeller. It flies faster than the APC 21X14, but have the same throttle-management. It feels like this propeller is running in water instead of air ... For those flying YS in the past ; it have the same response.

Just my personal experience ...
