Hacker C50 mounting
 

Hi,

Thinking about to hard mount my Hacker C50 in my Integral, any experience out there ? ... thinking about any bad sides ; noise etc ..

I've not hard mounted one, but have used the electric Budd Mount in three planes now. Easy install and works great.

I've got one hard mounted in a Prestige, after all its electric with no vibration! What I have since learned however is the two advantages to soft mounting are noise reduction and a theoretical longer gear box life since there is some ‘give’ with each impulse of the motor.

I have no idea where it’s at sound level wise, but it definitely makes some noise on the ground. In the air, it only seems to be a little louder than the outrunner…I can still fly in the early morning hours without disturbing the neighbors.

I had a hacker C50 (NOT the Competition version) hard mounted in a F3A model. It worked OK.
When I later moved the motor to a new model, where I used rubber mounts (4 pcs, 10mm dia. x 10mm long), it was noticeably quieter.
I have no measurements, but it was easy to hear the difference.
I will soft mount the Hackers from now, (even the competition, if I ever get one) while I am happy to hard mount any outrunner.

I see that Budd Enginering have two different types for the C50, any favourite ?

Purple one is smaller and lighter. Gold one will work for Hacker C50 and outrunners.

ok, the purple one is ordered ...

Actually, i am converting my Integral from ys to electric, and therefore it need some work with the dremel, hopefully just minor adjustment to get the mount fitted ...

What i am curious about, is how the thrust-angle will change, specially the side-thrust ( if it will )...
Right now, i was thinking to start with the same angle as i did with the ys, any thoughts ?

Kjell Olav I recently finished an electric Genesis. I previously have flown with a YS170 powered Genesis. On the electric I started with the same thrust alignment. It worked out quite well. I have afterwards added a bit extra of right thrust. On the YS genesis I however have a bit of throttle to rudder mix so it’s hard to say if there really was any difference.
My conclusion is that using the identical angles is a good start. If your side thrust will be too little, and difficult to change, it can always be fixed with a throttle to rudder mix.
Since your vertical CG will be different on the electric it would be fair to assume that also down thrust may be affected, but on my models I found no difference.

Thanks for info David , sounds like a good starting point , using the same thrust angel as i did with YS ... There will still be some space for adjustment though ...
I imagine that electric power is more like a "constant - speed - drive" than glow , and thereby a more constant airflow around the tail ... or maybe i`m wrong ...

Thanks guys for every input!

Mr Hacker enjoy pulling my Integral, while resting in his rubber mounted Budd-mount :)

In addition ; he prefered som extra aircond in his compartment , so i made a special one for him ; 2ea stator vanes, with different profile`s ,angels, so that mr Hacker get`s his enire body cooled. .... In fact a really functional mod :).

Hi Chris,

... Sure , there is a 3000 watt buildt in starter now, no need for external power-source :D

... A carbon spinner is on it`s way. ;)
