This guys are testing the new AXI 5325 F3A, it seems like a midpoint between the 5330 F3A and the 5320. Weight savings are about 86 grams with a little less power available also (maybe lighter weight batteries?)

Hi all,

It's true. We have the pleasure of testing the new AXI 5325/24. This new engine has 86gr less and the power is more than enough to realise the P-09 and F-09. His consumption is lower than 5330/F3A ( Like Aresti-RCU says, we started to use lighter weight batteries) and his little less power is dificult to perceive. We used with Jeti Spin 99 controller and we are so happy with his performance. ;)

At the moment, we done more than 50 flyies with the new AXI and we decided to use it in the next World F3A Championships 2009 in Portugal representing Spain.
Actually, we use this engine in my Berylls EP, but this month we will test in my new biplane, Amethyst. :D:D:D

From the pictures it seems slightly shorter. I guess the "53XX" denomination may be related the the diameter and length of some part of the motor (the rotor for example) Then the 5320, 5325, 5330, and 5345 could be the same diameter motors with longer stators?

Hi,

The new AXI is shorter than the 5330/F3A but both engines have the same diameter. You can mount the two engines with the same sistem. ;)

Hi

Some pics of my new Amethyst biplane powered by this new AXI. More than enough power to realise P-09 and F-09 in windy and calm days.
With this lighter engine the Amethyst weight's 3.850gr without batteries. Oxai - AXI thats really really good combination.
About Amethyst, I only have one word, AMAZING!!! [X(][X(][X(]

I use the AXI Carbon prop 20x13. The prop that AXI recomended.

Hello Juan,

I notice that your Amethyst has the flat horizontal stabilizer, not the one with anhedral as shown on Oxai website. Did you request this change or is it now standard?

What batteries are you using and how much energy is being consumed for the P-09 and F-09 flights?

When I recieved my amethyst I had the same question. Then I remembered that Wolfgan Matt already had this new stab in the European Championship in Brescia. The Amethyst that appears in the website of oxai was the first one and I think that this change is an evolution of Oxai. Fortunately, this change has had a very positive effect because my Amethyst doesn’t require any mix. I’m really happy because it’s one of the few planes that didn’t need it. Beryll EP for example need a little Rudder-Elevator mix: 5-7%.

About the batteries, I actually use RC-Material Batteries 4500 mAh. His Weight 1 kg only and runs really good. [link=http://www.rcmaterial.com/]LINK[/link]
I charge about 2100-2500 mAh. It’s less than AXI 5330/F3A that charge about 2600-3000. With this biplane, I don’t need any more power and I consume the same than Beryll’s.

I adjunt 2 pictures, Roger Mao and Wolfgang Matt Amethyst biplane to view the difference.

5330F3A 42 x 72 = 3024watts
5324/25 42 x 60= 2520 watts

Logically, these are the results obtained with the programming box, and that's the aprox. averages of peak max obtained with both engines.

Thanks for the answer, hope your exams went well.

You will never maintain 42V from the 10S lipos, more like 36-37 under load, then the watts is more like 2200. You Amethyst must be pretty light and small, thin wings to be able to pull it adequately thru sequences with 2200 watts. Glad you like the plane and motor, please keep us posted on your experiences with both.

The power generated by the engine in each figure in the P-09 and F-09 schedules is very difficult to meet. The efficiency of the batteries and the controller also influences the final watts. ;)

Talking about Amethyst, indeed I don’t know what are the Amethyst profile wing’s, but having the Berylls and Amethyst wings I can say that’s its more fine like Berylls( The maximum wings thickness beryll is = 60mm and in Amethyst = 28mm). The “wing chord” is also minor, and the total size of course.

Air resistance induced in a biplane is higher than a monoplane but the wing load is lower and the Reynolds number will be higher also.

I ordered new 2009 version of Amethyst and Oxai states that wing, rudder and stabs have been changed. Can you give me some initial throws for aileron and elevators to makefirst flight less nervous? Can you show photo of your battery placement.

I see that you've bolted it directly to the airframe. Doesn't it need a mounting cage (like the Hacker A60 one)?

In all of my airplanes of F3A I mountend directly to the airframe and I never had any problem with Axi and Outrunners. Is really important to have your propeller well-balanced.

To inform you all I have done more than 100 flights with the new AXI and everything is perfect at the moment. :D

Hello Rombaut:

Can you confirm that the prop adapter is 8mm? The Axi specs say 8mm but it is difficult to tell in the pics. Also, does the motor come with the other prop adapter in order to rear mount the motor?

For those who were asking, I will be importing the new 5325/24 into the US. There are a dozen coming estimating mid Sept. (Axi is on vacation until Aug 28). Axi's suggested retail is the same as the 5330/F3A motor so expect a similar price.
