I used the 1515-3D in a 12.5 pound YAK, and 11 pound Extra. Way more than enough power, and super reliable. I think the 1515-2Y would be better for pattern. Prior to the release of the F3A motor, this would be the one I would choose.

I am currently using the Neu F3A motor in my Passport, and it is perfect. Why do you not want to use the f3A motor?

Hi Todd, nice to see you here. Yes, he is talking about the same 1515 3D geared inrunner that I have. I've been flying mine real hard for over two years. It is a work horse of a motor, and would do fine on a 2 meter, providing way more power than needed. The F3A motor is lighter, has an internal cooling fan, and is optimized for the prop sizes that we use in pattern so i was just wondering why he would not just use that one.

Bill, I was thinking about some pattern practice this weekend, or mid week next week. If you and Steve are planning a day, let me know, I may be able to come up and join you.

There is a guy here in Southern California using the 1515-3D on a Krill Spark with good results. I beleive there is another using that motor on a Genisis. I see no problem using it.

The 1515/3d with the P32 box is excellent in Pattern. In Australia, David Macfarlane has won every round of F3A at Masters level, he has contested using Thuder Power V2 and the new ProPower 30/60C cells . (The latter combination earnt David's praise "for the most power" he had ever had in a pattern ship). The 2Y version is good for light air and props to 22" but speed is relatively low, until the props get squarer, and its performance doesnt hold up so well in wind.

The 1515/3D/p32/6.7 combo has:
* very similar kv to the F3A motor/box
* it runs cool w/o fan or fins
* it is lighter by 105gm
* it is cheaper
* it requires more maintenance of the box - in terms of checking greasing (30-50 flights) and bearing replacement at 100 flights
* the box is limited to 20-22" props depending on your flying style - altho you should prop well within that limit at present 18-19" more likley

The F3A was designed for a flyer who has a very heavy workload and wants the minimum of maintenance and an utterly bullet proof setup, able to cope with any forseeable increases in battery power.

The best news is which ever you choose you won't compromise your ability to compete in F3A.
