Maybe it is a special but the price of the 4s 3700 batteries was greatly reduced when I checked the rhino store today. Ordered 4 more batteries for about $20 more than I was paying for 2.

yeah, they made another step down in price. For a 5s 4900 I paid $105, now it is something like $65!

Looks like the 20C Rhinos are going cheap. I was lucky to get the 5S 4,900 20C ones for like $69, bought a whole load of them. Now maybe with the low prices I may be able to get some 6S packs!

Randy, I have 2 sets (4 packs) of the 5S -4900's and so far there have been very good. Only 10 cycles on them but power is excellent and the internal resistance numbers are really, really low. Great deal so far.

Hey Tom:

All of my cells read in the 1.7- 2.1 ohm range on my CellPro. My Flightmax (Zippy) packs with comparable cycle numbers are all in the 4.2 - 5.5 range.

! have 2 packs (4 batteries) of the 4s 3700. At this price I ordered 2 more packs for a total of 4 packs soon. They have worked great so far in my efocus sport. Some of the club members where impressed when I flew the stall turn with half rolls out the top of the box with the plane not appearing to slow down. I am not used to having the plane not mush over the top of the half square loops at the turn arounds. I need to tone down the rudder as I am still over controlling on it.

It will be real nice to be able to drop by the field, put 4 practice flights in and go home to recharge with no clean-up.

They are the same as JST, not Thunder Power.

Its called JST-XH on the Rhinos, the TP ones are the same as FP, FP calls it High Rate I believe, they are narrower than the JST-XH.

Sadly,I have to spoil the symmetry of praise.
Having seen the 4900 ,20c., Rhino packs perform well, as 5Sx2 (10S) F3A packs in a club colleague’s model, I ordered two sets of 10S packs.
One set charged up routinely.
The other set showed one cell (no2) as having a large(3.84 v. 4.1-odd) voltage imbalance initially, but after an extended low-amp “safety charge” with the Cellpro charger, all balanced out OK, at around 4.2 V per cell.
Just in case of problems, I set the flight timer at just 5 minutes as against my usual 8, in a typical APC20.5x14, Plettenberg 30-10 Evo, jeti spin 99, 2M pattern plane set up.
Smoke caused me to land and terminate the first flight after approx 4 minutes.

With hindsight, it was foolish to even try the doubtful pack-but now , should I try the other pack , or just chuck the lot, and mark it down to experience?

f3a05 ... its bad luck. It does happen. I had 2 packs go bad, pack 1 had 1 bloated cell and pack 2 had 1 cell which was totally off and I dumped it. Gave it to my friend who is now happy with his 'new' Rhino 4S pack. We both got lemons I guess but many did not.

I have been an ardent user of Flight Power, all my batts are FP only. Let me tell you this. I got a few of my friend into Flight Power too and the failure rate was just too high. I had 4 packs of the EVO20 5S 4,900 ... they all went bad in about 20 cycles. My friends had a few that went bad and I cannot fault them because I know the speca of the power system. We were operating about no more than 80% of the discharge capability of the packs. In my case, the packs are good for 96A and I was only pulling 60A. Each time I charge her its about only 3,500 mAh. Still they went bust on me. I got them replaced but still ... they have been sitting in the battery store for about a year now. Soon I will have to use them.

Rhinos are so much cheaper so its less painful.

After general safety(my flying patch is in the middle of highly flammable cereal crop fields),my second concern was that the burning battery would ignite my model...as it was, I was able to disconnect the pack via the outside arming connection, and internal damage was limited to the velcro pack retention material, a small area of the nomex battery trayand a couple of blistered finger tips.

Did you break in this pack before trying the 5 min flight? Someone strongly suggested that I cycle the batteries 5 time for 3 minutes at half throttle before pushing them any. I had one pack with an over voltage in one cell that seems to have gone away during this break in. Seems to me you probably would have noticed some over-heating after 3 minutes with this specific pack.

Smoke tailing most models is not a good thing.

I'm adding to my leccy knowledge all the time...
Black smoke= blown ESC
White smoke, it would seem, = very hot motor battery.
Either smoke= very bad news.
And no, I didn't attempt any formal break-in . I wasn't too keen to do much ground running, for example, as my (Plettenberg) motor runs quite hot.
I did fly quite gently, for about four of the planned five minutes.
Incidentally, I have now plucked up courage and flown the second pack-briefly and gently,without problems,so far....
