Wind 110 repairs

Hi
I flying my Wind 110 today and unfortuanlety one of the wheels came off ( My fault I should have lock tited the axle bolt) despite and almost perfect one wheel landing the undercarriage mounting plate suffered some damage. Has anyone had to do surgery in this area of the plane and if so how did you go about it?

Mike ... sad to hear what happened. I think its a nice major open heart style surgery. One of my UC blind nuts is not holding at all, I tried to figure how to go in and I gave up. All the best ...

Unfortunately I am completing the exact repairs on my Wind 110. Landed on a grass field
and..."CRACK" !
Locate the two bulkheads that support the landing gear plate and cut out the balsa at the
bottom of the airplane between the bulkheads up to the plate itself. The plate actually
comes out easy, the epoxy is not super strong and they didn't use a lot of it. The plate
in my Wind was made out of pretty crappy plywood that cracked way too easy. The piece
I am putting back in is two pieces laminated together crossgrain so it should be stronger and
I am installing a couple of small gusset braces for reinforcement. Glue some balsa back in the
cut out opening and replace the white covering and it's done. Should not be too noticeable.

Hi Tommy
After staring at her for an hour that was the plan I had come up with. I was real surprised when I noticed I had taken some damage as it was a near perfect single wheel landing. Balanced her on one wheel until the last one to tow feet. She didnt even slide off line.
What You have told me is that I am going to need to replace the ply.

I did exactly the same repair on mine. Problem is the U/C plate has tongues on both ends for assembly with the formers and not after! I made up a 6mm ply plate with a tongue on othe front end, drilled for and fitted the blind nuts, got that in position and glued a 6mm ply plate about 1/2" deep to the undersride of the U/C plate and to the front of the rear former. Replaced the 1/4" square stringers and sheeted with 1/16" balsa, sand/fill and recover, good as new and I suspect stronger.
