RE: CA Models ONAS

This just in from Dave S. To me its clear the swept wing planes are not for everyone but according to Dave, Tony and many others they are for them.

From Dave

"The Onas is really flying good right now, probably one of the best flying planes I have ever had, the motor is working great and now whatever mistakes take place are operator error. Shoot, I like blaming the plane for every mistake but this plane just flies too good. I am still having some difficulty seeing the planes heading but the rudder is so effective it’s easy to correct"

Thanks Dave, Marcelo and I look forward to seeing it at the Nats, (Approx 30 days and counting TIC-TOC, TIC-TOC)

Just finished going over my Onas, checking the trim for the Nats. It is very important to get the ailerons sealed and get the rudder trim dead straight. The model has a very powerful rudder and if there is play in the system or an offset neutral, it will drive you nuts. But when it's right, it's killer. I had a rudder cable that was slipping, letting the rudder go left. Replaced both cables and got them to proper tension and it's super.

The model at times seems a little more demanding to fly it right, but when you do it looks so good! I love mine. Best pattern model I've owned.

Well, the Nats are over and I am pleased to say the Onas and I came out on top of Masters. It was a tough week, with a mid-air with Dave Snow's Onas during the last preliminary round and a deadstick in the 1st round of the Finals. 1st deadstick I've ever had with an electric pattern model in competition. Seems the heat shrink on two of the motor connectors wore off and they contacted, frying the ESC. Oh well, 1st time for everything.

Thanks to Leon Robison for the trip, I wouldn't have been there without his support. Thanks to CA Models for a beautiful model. Thanks to Neutronics for a great motor. JR for a great radio in the 12X. And thanks to anyone and everyone who has helped me. I do appreciate it.

I am sorry I did not see your post sooner. We have one that is in the same scheme as Tony´s that is finished except we have not painted the wings. Some people like the paint others the covering. Everything else is painted. It could be finished and ready to ship by mid next week.

RE: CA Models ONAS

I finally flew my Onas last week, it is the ARF Ultracote covered version, it flies very well, but it is still nose heavy, really didn't have time to adjust at the field.

This is my first electric 2m plane, honestly I don't like it if I compare it to my YS's, as it feels like I'm flying a two stroke, and any power correction increases the airplane speed a little bit, but I will have to get used to it, as it is the only thing I will be able to fly at 7am, as glow/gas is prohibited before 10am on our field, it does not have anything to do with dB,oh well....

What impressed me the most was the final weight,

Equipment,

Axi 5330 F3A
CC HV80
8111 JR
9411JRx2
378Jrx2
Duralite failsafe regulator
R6008HS Futaba Rx
Rhino 4900 batteries
Total weight 4796gr

So I used a Flight power 1800mAh 7.4V for the Rx and added 96gr fro CG, but if I use the 900mAh TP I will be adding less than 40gr, and I can still change the regulator to the Power Systems Digiswitch and save 22grs more(if I remember correctly as the Digiswitch is 18grs)so it will still be under 4900gr!!

I think it will still make weight using the Turnigy Nanotech I just ordered, they are heavier than any other battery, but at 70C discharge, talk about punch!!! and they can be charged at 8C! I just tried them on my Habu here in Florida, and the another guy thought I had the 3600kv motor (stock is 3200 I think) because it was as fast as his, but I'm on the stock motor, ran twice as long an as fast, really impressed by those batteries.

Without a doubt a job well done by Camodel, I never thought I will have an airplane this strong and light!!

Regards

Alejandro

Hello Alejo.</p>

I just fly my Onas last week to, if you place the power battery in the try that is comming placed in the plane sure you will be nose heavy, i was moving back the battery until I lost it during a fly, almost lost the plane in the four fly.
I extend the battery try, the cg is just in the wing tube, the plane fly very well, the rolls are axial, the stalls are clear and the snaps are amazing.
Move from glow to electric power is not easy,to fly electric is different, you have to control the power a lot, because you have to much power.

See you next week in Llanogrande.

Hola Stati!!!!

Yes, the acft snaps are awesome, and on the batteries, that's why I did not moved them back on the field!

See you next week,

Alejandro

Flew my new ONAS for the 1st time today. Very windy day so not a whole lot accomplished. Curious if there is a need for additional air flow (Exit) than what is provided by the side outlets?

RE: CA Models ONAS

I have never seen the need and I have no baffling in my model. I think the side vents do a really good job of drawing the air out.
