Hi Blake,
Well, I picked up my Pogo on Friday - Right now I'm sitting down and listing out what else I need as far as servos, battery controller etc. I ordered the E-Flite motor though it won't be available till July by the time it hits the stores.

Awesome Chris! I am going to clean off the building table and get the kit out of the attic. I have the Turnigy motor and some GAINT 100 amp HK speed control to use for now, I just need to make up my mind which charger to buy... I want one that will do it all, only problem is my "all" doesn't seem to stay the same!

Chris.
I was at Roy's a couple of days ago and ran into Jerry Small there. Roy's has the E-Flite Power 25 in the correct Kv in stock as well as the Pogo ARF (ARR)?

I got mine dialed in over the weekend, love it. I'm using the E-Flite motor and an APC 9 x 6E cut down to 8" diameter.

Assembly notes:

1. I replaced the metal wing hold-down bolts with nylon #10 x 24s threaded into the wood.

2. I added a hold-down screw (also a #10 nylon) at the rear of the canopy, just because I didn't trust the magnets. It's got a knurled top on it so I can tighten it by hand after changing out the battery, no hassle but a little extra security.

3. The landing gear bolts are long enough to poke dents in your ESC if the ESC isn't all the way ahead of the wing. Cutting the bolts improves ESC performance.

4. I started with the Turnigy motor and got mad at it when I heard a loud buzzing at high throttle. Changed to the E-Flite motor and got mad at myself when the buzzing was still there. Turns out it was some sort of harmonic in the cowl, allowing the fiberglass to beat against the wood structure underneath. I was able to dampen the vibration by wrapping one layer of vinyl tape around the firewall and first former, & now I've added 4 small screws (like the 4 in the wing saddle area) to secure the cowl to the perimeter of the firewall.

5. To adapt the Turnigy motor to the length of the cowl, make a standoff block from one layer of 3/8" ply and one layer of 1/4" ply. You'll need to go to Ace and buy some longer 3 mm bolts to reach the blind nuts.

6. The aileron linkage as installed gives more differential throw than I like. I carefully bent the torque wires backward so the aileron linkage attach points are closer to directly over the axis of rotation. Now the aileron response feels better to me. It wants lots of throw.

7. The instructions say glue isn't needed for where the aileron torque wires go into the wood. I found one of them had enough play in it to make me nervous, so I ran some medium CA in there and now it's fine.

8. Lateral balance makes a difference on this airplane, even on takeoff. Mine needed 3 quarters taped to the starboard wingtip. Now it tracks perfectly.

All in all an amazing value & a terrific little ship. Kudos to Jerry Small and Scott McAfee for a great concept.

Default RE: EP LR1A Pogo

Picked up the ARF LR-1A Pogo the other day at the LHS. Have a Turnigy 35-42, 1250KV coming from Hobby King. Will use a Castle Phoenix 60 with a HV bec to handle the 3S 2200 mAh and 4S 2100 mAh bats. Have APC 8x8E (cut down to 7x8, for 4S), 9x4.5E and 9x6E (for 3S) to start with. Using HS-82MGs all around.

We should be racing these planes this fall-winter-spring at our Club 20 event in WA. We start the second week in Oct and go to the second week in April, every 2nd Sat of each month.

Decided to change the scheme a little, still need to recover the stab/elev. Not going to do anything to the fuse or cowl. Painted the gear and wheel pants red.

Here are some pics.

Enjoy,

Bill

No, it wasn't. It was the plastic spinner cone. I changed to an E-Flite aluminum spinner, & it runs smooth as butter now. Just FYI.

Got my Pogo together. Have 9 flights so far. Running the Turnigy with 3s 2200mAh lipos. 9X6 apc E prop. Flys smooth and predictable with throws as suggested in the manual. Don't have a way to check the speed. Guessing 70 to 80mph. Flying for 4 mins and putting back 1850 to 1980 mAh into the lipos. Fun plane to fly.

Finished changing the color scheme. Did paint the cowl.

Just cut the 8X8 APC E down to 7X8 will try with 4s next time out.

Landings take a little practice as this plane wants to float and then all at once stall. I have it down to 3 out of 4 really nice landings, fourth one kinda bouncy.

Coming up on racing season. Starting to get exited.

Here are some pics.

Enjoy,

Bill

Bill she looks great!!

I just got back from practicing with my Club 20 racer. Our season starts Oct. 9th and I want to be ready. I need to prove that my 3rd place finish wasn't a fluke!!

Have you spoken with Jerry lately? I still haven't seen his Pogo (or anyone's) fly. I would be totally in on adding it to the Club 20 racing as well as adding Club 40 too. We still haven't reached a consensus on the Club 40 as everyone has been so busy this summer. I would imagine that the e-mails will be flying around very soon, in fact I sent one out just this morning!!

Allen,

Disregard that last PM. I should have looked here first.

Hey if you are able to make it to Dusters tomorrow or Thursday, let me know. I will meet you out there and you can check out the Pogo.

I'm working on a new Club 20 racer. Hope to have it finished in the next week or so. Need to get some flights on it before racing season is here!

Didn't want to start a new thread.

Pics of original box and the frame I'm building. Just copied off the plans and downsized everything to give 400SQ IN wing. Fourth pic shows the airfoil.

Enjoy,

Bill

I like the foam core wing! Hurry up and get that thing flying.

I wish I could make it down to Woodburn to see the Pogo but, alas, I am too busy. I do work sometimes, contrary to popular belief!

I hope to be out flying my 35%er on Saturday. Bring one of your big gassers and the Pogo and come fly with us. I'll bring my Club 20 and the Club 40 just for comparison.

Hmmmm...I wonder if The World Models will ARF the EF-1 Miss Dara, Li'l Toni, Midget Mustang, Cassutt, Shoestring, DeKnight Special, Kazi Killer, etc. They did pretty well with the Sky Raider MKII.
