Standard Tail Motor vs. E_Sky Tail motor (Tail Motor Woes)
Other than having to replace the tail motor fairly often, the E_Sky tail motor seems to have more authority than the standard tail motors. The only difference that can see is the length of the motor (see picture - E_Sky tail motor is on top). These larger motors must be available in bulk somewhere; I can currently only get them from RC dealers in China at $8 - $10 each.
I have tried a DD motor (I currently have one on one of my E_Skys). The battery cannot be moved forward enough to balance the heli and flys as such. Great tail motor authority though.
I have also tried the dual tail motor mod which weighs less but the gear mesh is very hard to get right. I have the tail motor spinning pretty freely but the tail motors get very hot suggesting there is still too much friction but I cannot reduce the friction further.
I'm to the point where I'm considering ditching my birds and getting a copter with a shaft driven tail rotor. Lately, I'm spending more time working on tail motors than flying.

The dual tail motors on my E_Sky just stopped working. They're getting voltage. I'm soooooooooo frustrated. I have spent 6 -8 hours working on my birds and about 15-30 munutes flying them. I hate this! No fun anymore!

I did look on allelectronics and didn't see them. That doesn't mean they're not there though. I would certainly encourage anyone to look and post if they find them.

There are 2 things you can do to prolong the life of ESKY (or any) tail motor. First and most important is to very very carefully balance the tail rotors. Even a very slightly out of balance rotor will geometrically reduce the life of the motor. After you can carefully balanced the tail rotors, check them again!
Second. you can break in the motors, by hooking them up to 1 "d" cell and putting the motor in a small cup of water while running. Sounds funky, but works great. Run the motor for only 5 minutes (no more), then dry and add the smallest possible drop of light oil to the bushings front and back.
Also use a heat sink on both the main motor and tail motor. As with most motors, performance and longevity are inversely proportional to temperature.

One major problem of Micro-Heli or any non-direct shaft/belt driven heli is that its tail motor is the first one to go. Due to the size of the heli, designer/engineer have no choice but to use very small but lightweight motor for the tail. Because it is small, the brushes also small. Due to it is weak, engineer have no choice but to use Geared Drive to trade RPM for torque. With all that, the tail motor is actually spinning very fast. With that again, the tail motor brushes can easily worn out.
In brushes, if motor spin fast with low load, the wear and tear from brushess come from friction. If motor is use to drive high load, current drawn increases. With that u have less wear and tear from friction but it suffers from sparking/arching and burn out.
Using Bigger tail motor, u gain having more torque motor and therefore, your motor do not require to spin fast but u suffer Center of Gravity and Shorter flight time. U will gain longer lifespan of the motor also.
Using smaller motor but with twin motor, u reduces the load of the motor and also double the torque power. With that, you gain more authority from single motor itself and also reduces arching and burning. Your tail motor lifespan also last longer.
Bottom lines is that so long as u using brushes motor, sooner or later u will have wear and tear in the brushes. Bigger motor has bigger brushes. Carbon brushes last longer than brash/copper brushes.
Alternately u can go/mod your chopper to use shaft driven or use Brushless tail motor.

I heard that there do exist commercial brushless motor of a small size (I mean suitable for tail motor) but I also heard that it is expensive. U have to go and hunt for it (Check out internet).
For me, I home modified CDROM motor for my tail motor. I using Modified CDROM for my tail motor. I'm not the only one doing so. If you search around, u will see some of us do use mod CDROM motor for tail.
