I am moving from simulator to actually flying a real helicopter. I am going to upgrade from a Futaba 6XAS transmitter to the Futaba 9C. I would just need the helicopter. If you were in my shoes, which heli would you get?
Thanks in advance

You'll be lucky to get much of a heli for $150.... Unless you got a lot of other gear, including a Gyro, receiver and Servo's.
If you do, then maybe a T-rex is a good idea.
If not, then consider a Walkera 4 RTF. I know it has it's own transmitter, but after you buy new Servo's, you'll have spent all that money.

Bullseye, congrats on your decision to go with the 9C. Are you getting the 9CH so that you get the smooth throttle rather than the ratchetty feel that the 9CA has? If you already have ordered the 9CA, don't worry, it is easy to open the case and modify the spring system that causes the ratchets. this makes hovering easier.
On the heli, what are you looking to get into? Indoor electric? Outdoor electric? Nitro?
What equipment do you have?
What are the chances of opening up your budget a bit?

mate, if you wanna buy a heli then you'd need about 7 hundred uk pounds. £500 for the chopper, and £200 for a transmitter, although if you want a good transmitter, your looking around about 250.
if you got a used chopper, you'd be lookin at about £250. my dad might get a t-rex so he can fly with me. (and also I can use it) there is a t-rex 450 whatchyamacallit on ebay for about £245

I probably should have been a little clearer. I have all the mini servos and the receiver. I am looking for a mini indoor flyer that could be flown outdoors. I have been looking into the T-Rex and the shogun. I am leaning toward the T-Rex, since people are saying the parts are cheaper. The 150.00 budget would be for the helicopter and engine alone. I thought that the Shogun V2 belt driven would be in that price range. What do you think Vince?

The Trex is an excellent heli, one I highly recommend. It flies great and the parts are cheap.

The T-Rex is a bit large for indoor flight, if indoors is anything but a gymnasium or sports arena (thesportsdome.com)
I do hover mine in the basement, but if I destroy anything there, the wife doesn't care.
Great for outdoors, though.
Do you have a gyro? That adds to the cost as well. I put about $600 into my T-Rex, without the transmitter.
T-Rex kit
Mega 16/15/3 motor
Castle Creations P35 ESC
Futaba gy401 head hold gyro
Thunder Power 3s 2100 batteries
3x Futaba 3108 servos (later moved to 3s Hitec HS56bb)
1x Hitec HS50 servo for the tail
Berg 6 receiver
I already had chargers for the LiPo batteries, and the 9CHP transmitter. I did not go the least expensive route. I suspect that you could shave off $100 if you went with align products rather than the components I chose. Go look at the combos at places like

Don't discount my other suggestion of a Walkera 4 too quickly even if you do have all the other parts.
If you take care of it, you can resell it later, and it's a great learner heli... If you can fly a Walkera 4, you can fly almost any Heli.
It takes a LOT of damage and is cheap to repair.... And with a decent 1200 mAh Lipo pack, flies for ages.
It makes a great kit to start with, and the total cost will be less than $100 if you already have extra servo's. And the damage you will do to a T-Rex while learning to the same skill level will cost you way more than $100 in all probability.

Ya I learned on the Trex also but you'll $150.00 just in spare part for when you crash then first 6 times. Second any heli you spend $150.00 on and is ready to fly is going to be a bear to fly but the good side is once and if you learn to fly it you'll have no problem with a bigger and more expensive one and you'll also be amazed at the difference.

The least expensive trainer you can find and does the job is one of those 4 blade design helis like a lama.

For $150, it's just enough to get a brand new heli from oversea. Whether it's new or used it really doesn't make any diffirences since you can actually learn how to hover within day instead of weeks.

Bullseye, I owe you an apology,,I had no idea you could get a heli w/radio batt and charger for $140 plus shipping,,heck I almost ordered one last night my self,,I am bad about impulse buying ,,I had a LMH glow heli ,,but let a friend borrow it to practice on,,,I'd thought about getting a small elec-heli ,,thats why I hang out here at all...watching that one on ebay too...Rog
