Best BL motor for 550 size?
I converted my Raptor 30 to brushless and it flies great, but my poor little Turnigy SK3548-1100 is too hot to touch after an 8 minute flight. I need something a little bigger and/or more efficient. Any suggestions?
Thanks...
Thanks...

I would recommend using a 500 size electric motor from Scorpion along with the matched ESC. That is unless you would like to let the smoke out of the small one you are currently using.

I've been running this on a hurricane 550 for a couple of years now. runs cool and has plenty of power for the sport flying I do.

I too have a Hurricane 550 and the most popular motors seem to be the Tonic-X z20 and Z30 motors. Not sure what KV you need as it would depend on the gearing, but you can find them at Helidirect.

I take it you'rerunning the Zippys in series?
With a 6S PolyRC 3000I was getting about the same flight time just hovering at various altitudes in my backyard. Once I install the Hacker, I'll take it out to the field and see what it can really do. Even with the undersized Turnigy, vertical climb was as good or better than the nitro engine. Gotta love brushless...
