What's the difference?
I'm brand new to heli's and the biggest, most important decision right now is which electric heli I should buy.
What's the difference between the Piccolo Pro and the Piccolo Fun? Is there a site where I can read about the differences? The hummingbird seems to be in the same category. What are your recommendations? thanks. |
What's the difference?
Piccolo fun has fixed pitch and piccolo pro has Collective. Here is a site for you to check out some of the differences. http://www.fxaeromodels.com/eco.htm I my self is a beginner and I would suggest the fixed because it gives you one less adjustment.

What's the difference?
If you're set on getting a micro I'd say go with the Hummingbird mainly because I like the little differences in the head assembly making it more durable and require less upgrades. Plus it comes with bearings and pre assembled for your pleasure... I don't think it's a good idea to start with a cp micro, micro's are enough of a challenge to learn on without any added frustration. You can always upgrade the Hummngbird to cp later if you wish. Eco Piccolo flies simlarly and quality is about the same, I just feel that the Piccolo needs a couple more hop ups (ie. aluminum head so your bearings don't fly and and upgrade anti rotation arm, stock one is as super flimsy and breaks easily) those are not a concern on the Hummingbird.
Otherwise, you may have heard it before but I can tell you right now, the Lite Machines Corona is the way to go to start, it is a whole lot more stable and very durable and can be flown outdoors in light winds without getting thrown everywhere like a micro would. In my opinion, it's just all together a lot more fun to fly. The advantage of the micro is it's size though allowing you to hover in a much smaller area indoors. |

I agree with Astro, and many others probably would too. Just look right in this same forum at "Corona mods & hop ups" (near the top of the page) for some of the comments Z flier and Tocano have made about the Hummingbird and the Corona. Happy shopping, Russ :) |
What's the difference?
LOL, as a matter of fact, it's stinkin always windy here and in the backyard, the tree and fence creates some turbulence and makes flying the hummingbird actually kind of a pain. I was lately thinking of selling it and getting a corona for the backyard, I don't really have enough indoor room here anyway either, I really dig my hummingbird though, not sure.

What's the difference?
Hi Astro!
If my memory (what there is left of it) serves me correctly, you had a Corona, and sold it to get a Logo (I think)?? Correct me if I'm wrong, Russ :) |
What's the difference?
Yea, I had a Corona, and sold it for a Voyager E, then sold that for the Logo 10, the Logo's definitely a keeper! One bad bird I tell you! Just got carried away and crashed it at high speed about a week and a half ago, and waiting for one last part.
I just been trying to fill the home and backyard fix/ back up heli for when my Logo 10 is down, like now :( but I never really had the funds to keep 2 fully equipped heli's so I had to sell one ot get the other, I would've kept the Corona too if I could but couldn't afford it.... I finally then picked up a Piccolo, got bored of it, and sold that and later wanted another micro and got the Hummingbird but because I don't have a good size living room (I only have maybe a 6x6ft area to hover away from couches and tables and stuff which is not much fun, gets boring and the backyard like I was saying is too windy almost all the time and I don't mind when the winds are relatively light but when it gets gusty, it's a pain in the butt so I was thinking of selling the H-bird for a Corona or Eolo but I don't think I wanna spend the $ to set up an Eolo for small backyard fixes so Corona would fit that bill. I think it'll be good too cause I could take the Corona to the park when my Logo's not able to go for whatever reasons... I really don't know though, I like my Hummingbird and I got quite a bit ivested in upgrades on it so I'll see how it goes, I may add a bit of weight to it and see if that helps a bit for the winds... Once in a great while, the winds are really light and that's when it's a blast! |
What's the difference?
OH, FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD.....
You're in HAWAII!! Now I remember. I would imagine that you would have to go to the local gym to get some calm air!!! How does the Logo handle the wind ... and I would surmize that the wind is fairly steady ... same speed and direction???? Here in New England ... (as they say, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute), we have breezes, then wind, then calm, all in the same day a lot of the time. Oh, I forgot rain and an occasional hurricane or blizzard!! So, all we have to do is time it right, if you get my drift?! I love my Corona, and will most likely keep it and get a bigger one as I get more proficient. I really like scale stuff, and would like a .50 or ,60 size machine with 16 to 20 cells and a nice Funky Jetranger fuse, or something like that. By that time I'm sure LiPo's will be the way to go. Chat later, and Happy and Safe Flying, :) Russ |
What's the difference?
Hey, certain parts are more breezy than others but is usually breezy and in the valley where I'll be staying is always pretty windy..
The Logo is awesome in the winds, in around 10mph winds or so, feels like no wind practically, in 15-20mph winds, you get some drift of course but not really a big deal, this bird is unreal in the wind, nice smooth stable flyer. If you wanna go 50 size, maybe go with a logo 20, I've heard great things about them, for my needs, personally, the parks I usually fly in isn't all that huge and I like being able to go with a single pack and when I go lipo it'll be way easier on the pockets. Logo 10 is a nice size, pretty close to a 30 size. Oh man, lipo's on a Logo 20 or another 50 size, phew, you'll be looking at $600+ on one set of batteries! Someone did a scale Airwolf on Logo 10, looked absolutely sweet! I'm not sure if it was on this forum or Ezone, I'll look for it, if you dig scale stuff, you'll dig it. I really like the looks of scale too, I was thinking of doing the Hummingbird or a Corona with a scale body, I like to go off with my Logo so scale body's definitely out of the question at least for now. :) |
What's the difference?
Thanks for the info Astro!
I'm going to spend some time researching and getting comments from others before I decide what to do ... I am a great procrastinator anyway. I've heard other good reports on the Logo 20, and also on Graupner machines. It will boil down to who's fuse fits who's mechanics, I guess. Yeah, the LiPo's will set me back a few pesos, but I think in the long run, they will be worth it. I also am hoping to configure them into universal packs, so I can run several in series/parallel for a big model, and singles in smaller ones. That way I can get a lot of mileage out of the packs. Right now I have 4 NiMh packs that I use in the Corona, but will also use them in the Hobbico superstar EP that I just got. Hey ... we kinda got off the track of this original thread, no?? Thanks again for your helpful info. Happy and Safe flying :) Russ |
What's the difference?
Oh yes, not off the title topic but off the original question LOL. :)
Hey, I like Hummingbird out of those choices best, more durable because of head design and I do find the hbird to possible be a bit more stable, but then again every machine is going to be different, that's based on the piccolo I owned and the hbird I now own.... |
What's the difference?
The corona and hummingbird must be a dirty lil secret cuz I barely found the hummingbird. I still have not seen a pic or price for the corona.
helihobby.com has the hummingbird for $289 (complete package) http://www.helihobby.com/html/hummin..._products.html Absolutely no luck on the Corona tho. If you have one handy.. please post a link. Or if there's a better package deal, please post it. My funds are limited and I'd like to keep the inital costs below $100,000, shipping inlcuded. ;) thanks. |
What's the difference?
http://www.litemachines.com
Watch the videos and read the manuals if you like. A wealth of information is there. |
What's the difference?
And when you actually decide to buy a Corona go to www.roffeetvhobby.com - Mike there knows more about Coronas than just about anyone.
(The thing that sold the Corona to me were the videos on the Litemachine site where they fly it into a wall/tree/ground and then have it up and flying again within a minute) Cliff |
