hovering prob please help

Hi I am just another newbie... to rc and heli's
I got a skylark the other day because I always wanted a heli since I was a small kid ....

Started flying and had a few crashes... got on to the RADD school of flying lessons and have been working on them.

the main reason I have put this post in is to comfirm a prob that I have had with my heli. I could not get it to hover ... everytime I tried to trim the heli it would be fine for about 3 sec and then go off in a different direction.
After close inspection I noticed my fly bar had some small splits in it and after taking it out noticed that it was cracked in the middle. It woud cause the paddles to be off angle and would not stay inline with each other.
Could this be the root of the difficulty triming and hovering??

I have sourced a new flybar...... 2mm titanium bike spoke cut down to fit ...very light and strong ...(hopefully not too strong)
It was only $6sgd for 2 and there is enough left over for other retro fitting of landing gear incase I break it.

so any advice would be greatly appricated.. esp about the intialy hovering prob.. could the fly bar be the cause of this??

Having the paddles not lined up will make the heli harder to fly, but since you are saying that you are new to RC and helis, the other likely cause is pilot-induced oscillations!

Helis are not inherently stable, and microhelis are especially hard to fly.

as some would say it....

It's like a balancing a marble on a plate! ...

You'll have lots of things to break before you can have a better reflex. I broke a lot and spend a lot. Darn, I could even have bought a Raptor from the things I broke and upgraded.

I already used 4 sets of main blade (including the CF of a hornet which I just don't use anymore), 3 tail rotor blades, 3 tail booms including the CF and Burnt 1 Elite micro mod motor and lots of tail motors before I switched to High authority... etc....

My upgrades were mostly ordered on-line fron Sean and paid Expre$$ delivery most of the time.

GOOD thing about it is I'm very satisfied with it, $hould be!

new too...

hi.
myself and bikerdude are both learning with a skylark and have had our share of problems.
if your copter was new you did better than me. i bought a sec hand one from ebay and after 1 week of hell i found the balance bar was half the length it should be. today i received some 2mm carbon fibre rod and made my own. and i can now hover for a good 10 secs. so the state of the balance bar and paddles can make a lot of difference.
be brave.

rob.

Thanks for the support guys... It flew much better with the new titanium fly bar ( made from a bike spoke) I was able to hover for about 5 sec befoer I had to put it down or risk the side table :)
Taking it to the open gym at work to play in the big area.

Yet again thanks heaps
