RE: BumbleBee video
Hi Boyd!
Great piloting, and nice videography. Given your laid back appearance in the lounge chair and the fairly tight flying area might suggest that you are getting pretty good at this??:) How do you like it? Is it collective pitch? Looks Like LiPo power supply? Brushless? What are you using for a charger? How've you been? Happy & Safe flying, Russ:) |

Thanks for the kind words Russ. Good to type with you again:)
I did an informal short form review of this little guy(MIA MicroFlight BumbleBee) on E-Zone a week or two back. It's a fun, very small (145grams) package, but flies great once dialed in with a few minor mods. It's using a brushed 180 motor on Kokam SHC 340mah 3s lipolys and is FP. I recently got a AstroFlight Lithium charger and really like it. I'm doing great and hope you and yours had a good holiday:) |

Hi Boyd!
Sorry for the lapse between posts, it's been wild around here with the holidays, and then a whopper of a snow storm to really screw things up. Does the Bumble Bee fly as smoothly as the Corona or is it more skittish as most of the micro's are? (You make it look Very smooth) What kind of flight time are you getting with the LiPo's? Russ:) |
RE: BumbleBee video
It's not as smooth as a Corona but with the higher headspeed from the short span BumbleBee rotor blades, it is really about the same as a well trimmed H'Bird. A lot easier to fly than my HeliStars are. I'm getting 10 - 11 min on a 3s pack of Kokam SHC 340mah Lipo cells.

RE: BumbleBee video
Hi Boyd!
Well .... after some thought, I think I'm going to go bigger rather than smaller. I've got LOTS of room to fly, and I'm very happy with my Corona. It's great to take to the grandson's house or to friends houses to raise a bit of havoc. The only problem with the Corona is that it is really not too living room friendly ... just a bit big for that kind of thing. However, I do have a 45 by 50 ft garage at the shop, and I just rented another "airplane hangar" to store the antique car, boat and Harley trailer. There is 60 by 125 feet of clear space there to play, with a 30 ft. cieling .... and it's heated. So I think that will get me through the winter doldrums. My eyes keep turning in the Graupner direction (I made the mistake of ordering Graupners' $29.00 catalog!), a 20 cell , .45 size heli, or something along those lines. I wonder if you have any suggestions on these birds. I think they call the mechanics "EletroMechanik 2000". At any rate, it will be after the holidays before I can even think about finding the time to do any research on the subject. I'm still putting my Superstar Ep together with a landing gear improvement and a fixed tail wheel. Using the Corona NiMh packs for power. And making snow skis for it at the same time ... tooo busy!!. Gotta run ... chat later. Happy & Safe flying, Russ :) |
