Lipo low volt indicator

Hi guys,

I run a 2 cell Lipo pack and have seen many post worried about running below 3 volts per cell.

So I have thought of an answer for very little £ / $:

Just solder a 6v zener diode and an LED across the battery lead (LED cathode to negative, LED anode to zener anode, zener cathode to positive supply).

The LED will be illuminated until the voltage drops below 6.3v (due to operating voltage of LED).

Total cost £0.30

Excellent idea, you seem to know what yr talking about. Is there any way of making the led stay off until voltage drops too low?

Yep,

probably add a resistor and transistor across the LED, so when the voltage through the resistor onto the base of the NPN transistor is 0.6v or above the transistor is biassed on, which puts a short circuit across the LED, when the base bias drops the short is removed and the LED becomes the path for the voltage again. You would have to alter the zener rating to give a bit of extra time before 6v limit.
