feigao motor problem
 

I just tried setting up my blade to go brushless but i can't seem to get the feigao to arm and run properly? Anyone know how to do this? I have it hooked up to a CC10 esc?

main or tail motor? the phx esc wont arm unless it see's 0 throttle. did you turn your throttle trim all the way down?

I am running using it for my tail but i was just testing it out and trying to program it using my normal throttle. I can arm the esc but the motor seems to twitch and not start up smoothly. It is the 1208436 4100kv tail motor. I have a blade cp and trying to go brushless but getting it to work is the hardest thing. I am also hooking it up to a 3-cell li-poly, what should i program the esc to be?

If its twitching, its a timing issue.
Im not sure what the timing is on the Feigao motors, but I would start around 7 degrees and work up from there. Its probably set closer to 30 degrees which is the setting for an outrunner motor.

On the CC phoenix 10, there are only three choices for the electronic timing advace.
Option 1 is high(12-35 degree)
Option 2 is standart(5-20 degree)
Option 3 is low(0-15 degree)

So i should program it to low timing rihgt?
I setted my cutoff voltage to be 7.2 which is for 3 cell.
What should my current limiting be? what brake type ? what throttle type? what cutoff type? and should i have hard or soft start?
I tried it again and it twitches sometimes now. I would hook it up, it would twitch, so i would throttle down and wait like 5 sec. throttle up again, it works. Throttle down, and up again, and it twitches. I curently have it at standard timing.

This is a Feigao IPS 12mm replacement?

These motors have a 'weak spot'... where the wires enter the can (on the 'back plate') they can get damaged. If this happens they short to the can or each other / something and you get the behaviour that you describe (stuttering when trying to start)... on the CC10 you may see the 'full throttle' light is on all of the time or it is flashing. The can of the Feigao will get warm / hot even though it's not running.

I busted two of these motors in crashes before I decided to stick with cheap brushed IPS units that are more robust. I really liked them but I still crash too much trying stuff or 'hot rodding' to tolerate the lack of robustness of the wiring (or maybe they cannot tolerate me :) ).

If it's new (and my diagnosis is correct) then return it....

i finally managed to get it to start smoothly now. I swaped the esc out with a new one and it starts fine. I heard about the wiring issue too but i don't think this is the problem yet. When i hook it up to the gyro, it seemed to work fine but should the motor be spinning when i throttle up or does my HH gyro compansate for this? If i move the gyro, then the motor spins but when i throttle up, it doesn't. I have not tested it on the heli yet since my brushed motor is not quite dead yet but i will as soon as this one dies.
