FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
I recently purchased a new simulator cable for my Walkera TX as the old one got completely destroyed (my brother mashed the pins up good and then ppjoy would randomly lose connection as the cable moved or shifted).
I got a cable off Ebay that was advertised to work with all Zhen hua style TX's, they use the same small ps/2 style 4 pin plug and connect to the serial ports. The cable, for all purposes, looks exactly like my old one. However, now I get an invalid sync byte 0... in PPjoy while trying to use the TX, and get no signal from the tx it's self. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? For those interested, this is the cable; http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 |

What do you see when you load up Hyperterminal and set to 19200 Baud?
You should see 5 repeating characters... That change as you move the stick. If not, then the wiring is probably incorrect. David |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
Nope, i'm getting nada in HyperTerminal. I'm not seeing any signal from the TX.
You wouldn't by chance have a pin layout would you? I threw out my original cable :( |

Hi, I have exactly the same problem! Would also like to know how to solve it! Jim

Tada !
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_27...tm.htm#2728793 David, p.s. Just smashed up ANOTHER Walkera 4. Same radio, same failure. In from 8m up... Broken tail, broken landing gear legs, broken chassis (Two places), Head (rotor clamp) snapped in half, gear snapped in half, etc. I guess I got a little happy down at the park.... Was doing some high figure 8's and just lost it as it came around... Zero response. Yeah, it was glitching a little, as as I left, I saw a guy in the parking lot with an RC car, and wondered if it was the cause. I wonder if I can rebuild it this time? Hand-make a chassis? :) David |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
Perfect, thank you oops :). Alas, this is a guessing game for me unless I can find another din connector like this one that's new and ready to be soldered. The DIN end that connects to the TX is molded so I have no idea what wire is what without ripping the whole thing apart and making it useless. Looking at the serial connector it looks like everything is connected properly except one (pin 3 is on pin 4 instead). I'm going to try pulling it off 4 and sticking it on 3 and see what happens.
Sucks about you smashing ANOTHER #4 :( I notice the Walkera 4in1 has REALLY awful range. If I get the bird more than 10 ft or so away from me it will begin to randomly glitch. Mind you, i've got my antenna coiled up for hovering in close range, but either way, the range sucks, even fully uncoiled. I may stick an antenna tube on it to get the antenna to full length as coiling or folding any antenna will reduce range ultimately, not that i've got high hopes anyways. [&o] On the bright side, I almost smashed my eco-8 yesterday during a hover while trimming it out, ESC cut out (turns out it's overheating) and my bird dropped like a ton of bricks (5 pound ton of bricks). Thank jebus for the auto-rotation gear. I may not know how to auto properly, but I CAN soften the landing with the collective. :D |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
AFAIK, Walkera stopped making transmitters with Zhen Hua protocol support ("dumb" no-microchip cables only work with Zhen Hua supported transmitters). All the recent Walkera TXs I've seen, send regular PPM stream to their trainer plugs.
So, if your cable is just straight 4 wires with no electronics inside the serial plug hood, PPJoy wont help... :( Boris |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
Hi
So what is the solution? Is it possible for us to make the electronics bit! Jim |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
I don't think my old cable had one of these, though it is possible. As the TX did work with ppjoy for awhile untill I broke that cable, now i'm having a ***** of a time trying to get it going again! :(.
When I had taken that cable apart, it looked to me like just straight wiring with no modules anywhere. This new cable looks just the same, but evidently something is off as it does not work. Pins are connected to the right side on the serial plug, no idea if they're the same on the other end as i've no way of checking it without breaking it. Unless theres a way of taking apart these molded plugs without breaking them i'm not aware of :( |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
I've just made the parallel port interface suggested on one of the links quickly this evening. Its not working either! I need to check my wiring. I'll get this to work one way or another.... Jim

RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
Jim, did you get it working in the end?!
I have a 6ch transmitter recently purchased with a Walkera 22E and am having the same trouble with a cable purchased from ebay also. Does anyone have any fixes..? |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
awoollatt, if you have a 6CH Walkera TX, then it will not work regardless. You need one of the cables with the module that de-mixes the Walkera signal.
The straight 4 pin cable only works on the original 4CH zhen hua style transmitters. This is an old post, but as a sidenote, I never did get that cable to work. I spent $30 and bought a proper cable for my Hitec Eclipse 7 and now use that with FMS and everything is groovy :). |
RE: FMS Invalid Sync Byte? Help :(
Thanks - I might have known! [&:]
This whole heli experiance and importing it from China have been nothing but trouble for me so far! I don't suppose you've any clues as to where I might get a 'proper' cable from? |
