Ultimate T-Rex setup?

I am ready to get a T-Rex for Christmas and want to get it right the first time. What is the "best" setup for ordering a T-Rex? I have a Futaba 9C radio but want the rest for a good 3d setup. After your experieces with the T-Rex what would you order today if you were to do it again?

I'm watching this since I'm in the process of putting together a CDE eCCPM as we speak.

What made you choose the CDE eCCPM?

hands down Trex 450SE is probably the best micro/mini heli out of the box.
video of a all align motor/esc and out of the box 450SE

if i could do it all over again id make a "custom trex heli"

heliworkz or rotorworkz g4 frame + trex metal head + heliworkz elevated tail + pro zero slop tail
it would look something like this
top one = heliworkz frame (simplifies the whole heli drivetrain down to 1 gear)
bottom one = rotorworkzg4 frame + heliworkz tail

t-rex ccpm kit
Aon 3500 motor
Hyperion 30 esc
3 x HS56's
1 x HS50 tail servo or Futaba 9254 w/ the futaba gy401 for a really solid tail
GY 401 gyro
deans ant.
thunderpower pro lite 2100 pack
good set of blades in the 315-320mm

this is a good setup for 3D with plenty of go!

jctpro,

I recently purchsed the Trex SE ccpm with AON3500 brushless, with the phoenix 35 controller, the Futaba gy401 gyro, 3 x HS 56 servos with 1 x HS-50 (because the 9254 is out of stock) the deans antenna and a TP 2100 Prolite, Fut 146ip w/ deans micro antenna. Almost a cross between what Hover and jh4db were talking about.

DEFINATLY go with a Futaba GY401...hands down the hottest gyro out there. That gyro is AWESOME on the Trex.

And get the all metal head and tail rotor. NO slop, and its really solid.

Ive flown Bill T-rex around, and its awesome.
Im in the process of building a MX400. Im using alot of the same equipment because I know it works, and works GOOD.

jh4db536, thanks for posting the pic of my heli's, but the bottom one is the Align carbon frame. I have 4 other Rex's including this one with the Rotorworkz G4 frame.

Any reason just not to get the SE kit? Doesn't that have all the upgrades you can possibly need?

RE: Ultimate T-Rex setup?

The SE kit is beautiful, and a real performer. I can't think of a single reason not to get it. Of all the different configs I fly the Align carbon frame and bling parts have been flawless.

Hiya bill. Nice pic. We need to take that thing out one day, and get some hi-res pics of it. That all carbon fiber t-rex looks awesome and flys good to match.

RE: Ultimate T-Rex setup?

Well, I just got all my stuff from helihobby. 2 weeks from Cal. to Afghanistan, not bad at all! So I'm sitting here building in and need some help. I have the HS-56 servos and they have two mounting screws in each mounting arm, the carbon frame has one hole on each side. Can someone post a closeup pic of how they mounted this config? I would appreciate it. If I had a dremel here, I'd be done with it but I'm limited on space and tools. Thanks

RE: Ultimate T-Rex setup?

Thanks for all the input! Looks like the SE is a safe bet to get started. I am curious about the high tail option. What is the benefit of the high tail. This seems the mail reason to go a non SE route. Any comments?

Cool looking heli's, I just got the Plain Jane 450 XL, my first heli and all I know is airplanes. What does CDE eCCPM mean?? Also, what servos are you using? my LHS sold me HS-55's for the main controls and a HS-50 for the tail.

RE: Ultimate T-Rex setup?

CDE eCCPM has a 120 degree swashplate and uses "in-the-tx" mixing v.s. the older "mechanical" mixing type swashplate designs of some other versions of the Trex.

I dont have a Trex, but I have the MX-400...almost identical. Im using the E-flite S75 servos. Futaba S3108's would work well too if they fit.

OK, as far as the radio goes, I'll be using my 9CAP Super in "Heli Mode" going to make it non ratcheting as well.

RE: Ultimate T-Rex setup?

This is a good thread. For newbies can someone list what items need to be bought to outfit a off the shelf $500 450SE v1.

List them as needed (like radio and battery) and optional items that can be replaced or upgraded.

I am pretty sure I am going to buy a 450se v1 and built it up. But really would like a base list so I can research what options I want to purchase.

I see some upgraded combos out there with things like microheli aluminum parts and Rotorworkz but dont know if its vendors packaging inferior upgrades or what.

Thanks

PS: BillAltman, NICE looking heli !
