PCM over Fm
 

Ok, so im getting a new radio. i can either get a futaba 7-channel FM, or the cheapest PCM in and 8 channel. The price difference is $40. This is my first high quality radio. I dont know the difference. Im going to fly by myself, and i dont know of any interferences. What do you think i should do.

More than likely, the only thing different between the PCM and PPM (FM) version is the receiver it comes with. The radio itself is capable of transmitting using either modulation.

To better help you, what 8-channel PCM are you looking at, what receiver comes with it, and what aircraft do you plan on putting in that receiver?

Ok, I want a Futaba 7CH radio, but im getting it from servocity.com. That means i can costomize my order, hence being able to pick my reciever. I can get the 7CH R127DF FM reciever, or a 8CH R138DP PCM reciever. The difference is only $40. So for that i get an extra channel, that I will basically never use with a 7ch radio, and PCM transmitting.

The Futaba 7CH transmits in either PCM or PPM regardless of the reciever it comes with. It's a setting withing the radio itself. If you have no use for the 8-channel receiver save the $40 and get the R127DF. If you're planning on putting it in the T-Rex you may want to forgo the receiver all together and just buy the radio (if possible, it was with my 9C) then get a Futaba R146iP PCM or R156F PPM mini receiver. They are smaller and lighter and a better choice for the T-Rex.

O yea i forgot. Im planning to put it in a T-rex. Unfortunatly, I do have to get a reciever, and neither of those are a choice. If i dont get it by this package, it will cost more. I found it to be $335.89 with the R127DF FM 7channel reciever. It will cost $362.44 for the same package with the R156F FM micro receiver. Will I ever need more than 6 channels for a T-rex? I dont have much money know, but im looking into the future, incase i need a radio for a HB CP2, so i cant grow with the radio.

Let me make sure I'm getting you right. $335.89 for a 7CHP and R127DF, no servos? If thats the case its too much. O no, It accually comes with 3 S3103's and a S9650. And a AA battery holder and a mini switch.

Okay, thats better. If you're definately going to put either the R127 or R138 in the T-Rex I'd go ahead and get the PCM R138DP. The PCM will be a bit better at blocking out interference. Good luck!
