I just got a Eco 8 with all the alum upgrades.

I ave the following eletronics and need to find out if I need to throw them away or use them.

Jeti 40amp esc
Ikarus Mini Gyro


I also would like to know what Radio tx/rx, Servo's, Brushless motor to use and anything else I might have missed.

This will be my 7th Heli but my first that was not pre build and FP.

personally.. i would go with a different gyro.... Futaba 401... its basically THE gyro for electric helis...:D

Thank You for the Gyro Info. Anyone else williing to provide help here? Sure could use help picking a raido system.
I have the funds to spend 500.00 on a radio. and can spend what is need for the electronics, motor, esc ect ect

Futaba 9C or JR 9303 for the radio. There's not much better without spending lots more. It's highly doubtful you will ever outgrow either.

I second the Futaba GY-401 gyro. I have done lots of research and the majority of heli pilots go with the 401.

The rest I can't comment on because I don't know anything about the Eco helis. Good luck!

I like the JR8103 or 9303. Obviously the 9303 is better, but the 8103 really has everything you need. If you order directly from horizonhobbies.com you can get a "custom" JR package with micro servos and the small R700 recevier. Otherwise you'll get full size servos.

Try the Spektrum D 6 X from Horizon.

The 8103 is a great radio. It smokes the Spectrum and will take you a long way in this hobby. It will make a great choice.

You will prefer the CH rather than the CA. Same programming, but there are 2 physical differences. Most importantly, the throttle stick is smooth, making hovering easier. Less importantly, some of the switches are swapped.
It is worth the $20.
If you have already ordered the CA, you will still be able to open the case and modify the throttle ratched to make it smooth.

I am not sure what size servos your heli will require. If you can not find any packages that come with suitable servos, you can get a transmitter only package from these 2 vendors (oh, they include the charger and instructions):

With the exception of going digital, the best servos i've found so far are the Hitec HS-81's for the tail (or HS85's if you want metal gears or ball bearings)

Your ESC is fine, theres a variety of brushless motors that work. I'm using the Jeti 40A ESC like you, with a Jeti Phasor 30-3 brushless motor on a 24T pinion. The motor works great for general aerobatics on 10 cells. If you wan't more out of your heli (in the range of 3D performance) you'll be better off with a motor that has more guts though, like the Hacker B/C50.

The ikarus gyro works good, but you gotta put up with revo mixes and tail swings and all the other problems of rate gyros, such as constant trimming, etc. The gyro seems to me more suited for micro helis rather than big helis like the eco. As everyone else here has stated, get a GY401 and just forget about it. You won't regret it. I certainly don't.

I personally use a Hitec Eclipse 7 radio with my eco and love it. The only drawback it has though, especially when referring to the eco-8, is that it has no native support for a 90 degree swashplate. If your heli has the 120 degree swash this isn't even a problem. I would whole heartedly reccommend an Eclipse 7 if you've got the 120 swash. Otherwise it requires some programming of mixers to get the Eclipse 7 to work properly in 90 degree swash mode. It works fine mind you, it's just a bit more of a pain in the ass to get setup intially. So in that regard, if you've got the stock swashplate, the Futaba or JR line of radios may be a better choice for you. It all comes down to what you prefer. Everyone has their own likes and brands, they're all good radios, just get what feels comfy to you :).

I had an Airtronics RX that was really prone to glitching so i'd advice against their RX's for the eco. I now use a Hitec 8CH RX which has been working flawlessly so far, and even comes with a cool little crystal cap that keeps the crystal isolated from vibes and from falling out during a crash. Brilliant idea!

As a reference for all servos. The eco uses "mini" size servos, not micro. They're not quite micro, but they're not quite standard size, they're somewhere in the middle, so it's unlikely any transmitters will come with that size servo. You'd be better off buying a TX only and buy the servo's and RX seperately.

Hope that gives you some more ideas in your hardware range from a fellow eco flyer :).

the DX6 is only recommended for a 400 size heli at the most... I would go with a different radio for the larger heli.... even though this is a great radio and Im using it on my trex... it works great and its glitch free...
