250$ to spend
 

I am new to helis and was wondering if I could get a decent heli for under 250$. I have been flying on the simulator and fly planes, mostly 3D, but have never flown a heli in real life. I would like a CP model.

I have a JR 9303 for airplanes if that will work. It is selectable between airplanes and helis.

Heli of choice would probably be a T-Rex or something like that, but even though the heli is in the range, you need:

ESC
Motor
Gyro
Servos.

This will drive the price up.

I have 4 Hitec HS 55 servos, will those work? How much will the whole package work out to be. Is the MX-400 better or about the same as the T-Rex.

If this is your FIRST time really flying a Heli, I suggest the Blade CX for $189. Spend the rest on an AC Adapter ($20) a spare battery ($27 new on ebay with free shipping) and some spare blades. When the aluminum version of part #1212 comes out, get one of those pronto. Once you get comfortable with it, you can remove the weights from the flybar ends for better response, then move the servo links out one or two holes on the arms for even more responsiveness. Once you've completely mastered the CX, sell it on ebay along with all original packaging. You will get at least $140 or more for it assuming it's in tip top shape still. Take that $140 and put it on a Blade CP ($219)

he wants to get a heli... not a blade cx shortcut which can get boring after a couple flights... and did you read his FIRST POST? HE WANTS A COLLECTIVE PITCH HELI...

I would suggest the trex over the mx400 for popularity and parts availability...

Which T-Rex should I get, the T-Rex 450x, T-Rex 450xl hde, T-Rex 450xl eccpm, or the MX-400(not a t-rex). Which is the best reasonably price gyro for this heli.

i agree,with those mods after you get comfortable with it,it realy flys fast and you will get alot of stick time under your belt.
i got the cp and hit a mental wall with it when it got over my head.
got the cx and flew the crap out of it.
now i can fly the cp pretty well,helped me get over that "wall" of flying over my head.

if you dont think the cx can be a challenge watch this.

He aint getting what you suggested for under $250, AS HE STATED IN HIS ORIGINAL POST AND HIS SUBJECT.

I suggested a CX for his first heli. A CX is a good first, beginner heli that is easy to sell used (high demand) these days, and he can move up to a CP from there.

Try ebay, 450XL ccpm, shipped from HK for $294, includes gyro, 1 1800 lipo, 4 servos, brushless 3200kv and 25A esc. Just need your TX and RX.

Unfortunately there is a gulf in price between entry level heli's like the Blade CP/CX and the Trex/X400. A decent Trex/X400 will run at least $450 setup with decent electronics. The difference is performance. I have a Blade CP. I can hover and fly around a bit but it is extremely unstable compared to the X400. A correctly setup Trex/X400 will be much easier to learn on than a Blade CP. Despite the video of the Blade CX I wouldn't go for it. It is limited to what you saw in the video. Thats it. I can already do that with my CP or the X400. The nice thing about a Trex/X400 is they can grow with your skills, completely upgradeable and cost about the same as a Blade to repair after a crash. The Blade is very tough by comparison but it needs to be, you will crash more with it. I get frustrated flying the Blade as almost every flight session ends needing some sort of small repair. The X400 I might have to repair something every 10 flights or so. So the recommendation is save a little more money and get a better heli to start with. You will be ahead in the long run. RT

ok, here's what you should do, if you want a great flying, stable, CP, mid sized electric micro, you'll want a walkera dragonfly 36, no extras, just the lowest price you can find. go to grandrc.com and pick up an align 420LF and an align 35/25A ESC (if you're expecting to do 3D go for a 35A ESC) and 11, 13, 15T pinnions (bottom link in sig) then, take a trip to maxamps.com and pick up a 2100mAh li-poly (11.1v) with a deans connector and 2 extra male deans plugs. your price is at 250 now, if you strain the budget you can get a decent li-poly charger for your li-poly. (about $30)

Now that esky King and Cool are out, and with $250 to spend, I would say forget about the HB CP2 and BCP. The King is slightly bigger than CP2/BCP but its shaft driven, no worries about burning tail motors. The Cool is bigger and I think comparable to shogun size.

This Esky King kit would cost you 150 (including brushed motor, brushed esc, 4x servos). All you need is a gyro and a JR compatible reciever.

thecheatscalc, I already have 4 or 5 thunder power 1320 packs, and 2 tanic packs(on is 2100 and the other 22something i think.) I also have a charger .

EDIT: What is the cheapest but good quality gyro I can buy. GrandRC has a TRex with the align a 3200kv motor and a 25 or 35 amp esc. for 228$ I already have 4 or 5 hitec hs-55's and some hs-81's. If I am correct all I would have to buy would be the gyro??

hey, the 2100, and 2200mAh lipolys will work! the 1320 don't weight enough... :D which.. is funny to say for a heli, but, it's the truth, the smaller packs can't counterballance the tail easily, you MAY be able to splice them together to make a bigger one....

I'd go with that deal, you want the 3200kv motor and the hitechs should work, go for the 35A ESC and you're set! what Rx and TX do you have? (it's gotta be 6ch)

oops, sorry, forgot, ok I hear the futaba 201 (that's it right?) is EXCELLENT for these helicopters, whatever you get, you want a heading hold, and not the generic "zoom" one either. :eek:
