Mixer required for seperates?
 

Have a Walkera #4 and was planning on a seperates set-up. Do you have to have a mixer for FP's helicopter?

Not if you get a heading hold gyro such as the Futaba GY240. If you have acheap non head hold gyro then yes you will need a mixer for the throttle.

Or get a computer radio. Then you can use revo mixing to set the tail up. HH gyro is a better option though :).

Thanks guys. I'm replacing my PHA-01. OK piece of gear, just won't allow for the full potential of the 3S Lipo. For stock or 2S it is GTG. I'm going to pick up a Blade CX 4 in 1 and see how that goes. Heli-hobby says it has a good gyro and can take up to a 3S LiPo.

If you are not going brushless, you can get the Eflite 2 in 1 (2 esc's and a mixer) for $34. Worked great in my BCP.

With the 2-n-1, you use a separate receiver and gyro, correct? What gyro did you use? I assume you are using a more capable computer radio. How's it working out?

I was thinking of using the 2 in 1 but it too is limited to 9.6 volts. I don't believe the stock Walkera limits battery voltage to the motors. I read that the e-flite 4 in 1 is compatible with the 2S and 3S LiPos. What I'm, looking for is the getting the full potential out of my 3S. Lots of power at the cost of some tail motors every so often. [8D]

I don't think any of the 4in1s limit voltage, most of them are rated for 9.6 volts. What WILL happen is you risk burning up the components. The fact some people managed to run a 3 cell lipo on walkera 4in1's is a matter of sheer luck. I've had 4in1's burn out on 2 cell lipos or minor amp surges. Very few ESC's, if any, "limit" the voltage supplied to the motor. They have capacity ratings in which they are rated to operate properly without damage. Sometimes you can pump more juice through them without any negative effects. Sometimes you can't. Not all electronics are created equal. Even the same ESC's from the same company, some will work better (allow you to use higher voltage) while others will barely operate in their stock setting.

Honestly, avoid a 4in1. If you want a good setup, stick with all seperates, either buy a feda mixer and use a cheaper gyro, or just buy a heading hold gyro.

A mixer + gyro will probably cost you close to the same thing a semi-decent HH gyro like the align one would anyways. If you want the best performance, get a gy240 :).

I used the cirrus rate gyro and a JR6102. I love the radio.

Went with a PG-03 Gyro $38 and and Dionysus Design mixer $22, w/ GWS ESCs $25. 400Li for the main and a 380 Li for the tail.
