indoor micro recommendations please
 

Hi everyone,
I just started flying Helis this summer. I have a Black Hawk 450 SE and have about 50 flights on it. I can hover tail and side in with no problems nose in is a bit hairy but I’m working on it and have started doing forward flight. I live in the north east and my out door flying session is rapidly coming to and end for this year. I’d like to fly in side this winter, I have a large living room and a 3 car garage to fly in. Could anyone recommend a CCPM micro other than Blade CP and CP Pro that would be small enough to fly in a confined space. This Heli will only be used indoors so the smaller the better.

There are the esky products, the king2 is a 400 size so slightly larger than the cp and cpp but it's a belt driven tail. since you're not doing 3D indoors you can look at some fixed pitch models too.

I was looking at the venom night ranger 3d mico. very small main rotor diameter 340 mm and is ccpm.

that night ranger is pretty cool looking for such a small heli. I wonder if stability is an issue.

Personally, I want a blade cx2 or some other small coax for cruising around the house. Won't learn any skills on it really but for toying around...

Anyone seen the new PTU (personal transport unit) from millenium I think. It looks like a guy with a jetpack except its a heli pack. I haven't seen one in action yet.

I have a CX2. I dont care for it , way to easy to fly I can set the transmitter down and lite a smoke.

Check out the Walkera 4#3 palm size FP heli. It's full 4 channel control but only slightly bigger than a PiccoZ.

Yes, Walkera is supposed to have the CP version of the 4#3 called the 4G3. Here's a pic..

I have flown the micro venon and find a 340mm rotofly is pretty good/better for a 2 or three car garage. If you use the training gear on the rotofly, its pretty stable and you can circle in the garage or hover in the LR - its FP though. I will test the micro venon again tonight and let you know how it does in the garage...its been a while

test results - keep in mind I do not sell either of these helis I just like this stuff
I could hold the venon micro in a hover but it required lots of stick. Maybe its my particular heli but it tends to want to "drop" a lot and you have to constantly adjust the throttle to compensate. This is in a hover and not moving around.

The rotofly has large plastic blades and there is a lot less head speed. It hovers well and it is not too touchy to fly around some. You can fly it slowly for sure in a garage.

summary
I was proud just to keep the venom in a stable hover, whereas I had some fun with the rotofly. The price of the venon is as high as a good quality 300/400 size helicopter. The venon electronics seem markedly close to walkera's. My opinion. for what its worth, the rotofly won in the fly down.

how does the hurricane 550 compare to the trex 600 as far as cost/build/performance....ive been looking at a trex 600 because of all the reviews, but if this hurricane is a lot cheaper and isnt a major drop in quality ill start looking at those.

mike, I mean kit w/ just motor and esc/bec. have my own servos/gyro/tx/rx. if you're going to run any options I'd be willing to look at just the cf frame version without the cnc head or tail as well.

hennessey, the biggest advantage to the hurricane is that it's designed for two 3s packs and comes with a series connector to get them to 6s. this is much cheaper than the 6s 4000+ mah packs required for the 600.

Mike,

You didn't mention anything about the rotofly's head design (and the notorious two bearings). I imagine you are at the skill level where a blade strike/tipover isn't a worry?

Sucks that these things are so cheap that they attract alot of people to the hobby thinking they can jump right into it. My roomate had a rotofly and he spent more time looking for those two bearings than he ever did flying it.

when I was learning, I used white glue on them and that helped a lot and the originator writing the question is already passing the hover stage with a BH. As compared to the $249 venon is all I was comparing. I do not recommend either for entry into the hobby.

I'm going to go carbon fiber version with all cnc head and tail. Just waiting until after the holidays. When I'm ready to buy I'll PM to find out what the Credit card damage will be:D
