I need a little advice, in looking at 400 size heli's is belt drive on the tail a good or bad thing?

Do a lil research on the Yamaha RMax helicopter. That helicopter has a belt drive tail system. If it is good for that helicopter, do you think it is bad for 400 size helis?

Now the real question is: is the belt drive a good thing? When compared to what? A direct drive? or a Shaft drive?

Please be a little more specific.

Belt drive is a world apart from direct drive. Some people claim that shaft drive has less friction than belt drive, but it is hardly noticeable. If you can keep your tail rotor from hitting the dirt, then a shaft drive is a good choice. Otherwise the belt drive is your best bet.

if your getting belt drive, make sure you ground your tail as belt make some interferance that will cause glitch.

Been flying belt driven helis and never had a problem with glitches. I've got 5 helis with belt driven tails. Some of them with well over 500 flights.

Yes, belt drive tail is a very good thing. Very strong, and very forgiving in case of crash. Put a little silicone oil or grease when you assemble, and you won't have static problems.
