Fantastic photos!
It is truly a sad day, the only consolation will be that people when seeing Discovery will appreaciate now what they used to take for granted.
I hope and pray that this countries goverment get's it head out of it's A**, and fully funds our space program. Maybe it will take another space race with China this time to get that done. In that case I hope China has a little bit of success in space in order to wake our government up!
Regardless of the political situation, NASA has been one government agency that is above the rest.

It is a shame that the foot prints that were put on the moon in 1969 will be replaced by foot prints of China and Russia soon.
The picture of the shuttle will be something to remember.

Richard,
Thanks for your posting and insight to your experiences. I will do my best to keep the Dream Alive and will profess the failures of our Leadership who decided to cancel our future before the Space Shuttle Program ended "Constellation" talk about throwing the baby with the bath water!!!
CBS News was able to do an interview with a former US Astronaut who says it very well.......he is Angry and very Disappointed!
[link]http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57415466/astronaut-discoverys-final-flight-tugged-on-my-heartstrings/[/link]
Also, Mark e-mailed me and said these words......(Mark is a "former" Space Worker who stuffed Space Shuttle Lockers full of many types of equipment for the crews):
-
Keith and I got out on beach road just east of the runway,at 615 AM...we watched in silence as 23 years of work and dedication drifted north to its final home.
They took an excellent spacecraft that was currently flying and turned it into some sort of monument of what we had,but may never see again
in our lifetime.
Once you have disassembled a space program,it will be a matter of time when more gets cut, until there is nothing left...

Hello good people,
This morning I personally witnessed the Fly-Out of our newest in the Fleet, Space Shuttle Endeavour (Tail Number OV-105) ontop of the Large Path Finder (Modified BOEING 747).
It is with mixed feelings while I said my goodbye's to Endeavour for the very last time and will never see her again at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. It is being transported to The California Science Center where it will be on display for all to see.
So long Endeavour!
Low Pass, 20 minutes after take-off over the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF):

A co-worker who's wife works at Disney shared this Video with us and thought you might like it as well. Disney edited very nicely as always they do first rate Videos!

Hello good People!
I was lucky to win a Free Ticket and attend the "Soft" viewing of Space Shuttle Atlantis (Tail Number OV-104). I am providing at least one Video and some pictures!
This was taken at John F. Kennedy Space Center - Visitors Center at Kennedy Space Center, Florida!

Hello Carlos,
Great photos, it has been years since I have visited KSC but you are really making me want to go again!
Just yesterday I was flying the r/c Space Shuttle. I did have one unusual thing happen. I am force to fly off grass at my local club. As long as it is cut take off is no problem. But yesterday the grass was a little bit long and wet. So Itried it anyway and after two attempts I did get lift off. Ihad one good flight and decided to have a second one. The next time I couldn't get off the ground due to the drag of the wet grass. So after 4 attempts I decided just to taxi back. All of a sudden the Shuttle was dead. No throttle or even servo movements. Ipicked her up and carried her back to one of the starting benches. Turns out she was loaded with water! When Iturned her over water came out. What Ithink happened was that when the fan was running it was creating a vacuum affect on the bottom of the Shuttle. There is a very small seam on the bottom where I have my nose gear attached. I think the fan was causing water to get sucked in from there. I brought her home and dried her out and everything is fine now. But I will always remember that from now on only fly her on dry grass!

Steve,
Thanks! Would Love to have two RC Space Shuttles next to each other!
I do not know if you have learned that the Gentleman that Pushed this project to a reality has pasted away on September 23rd, 2013.
Richard Milton was a good friend and Aerospace worker for 50 years and a great modeler of all sorts.
His dream was to create a nice RC Electric Space Shuttle after he retired and he got his wish with EDF JETS, even though it was short lived project.
He will be greatly missed.

Thankyou Sir!
Some of the Rockwell engineers said that they where inspired by the Orion shuttle from the 1968 film 2001 a space odyssey. . . And that they even said it may have subconsciously made them design it the way they did.

Okay guys!
It's been a lot of years that I have NOT done anything with this Space Shuttle Project and going to bring it down from the Storage Rafter and dust it off and fly it again!
Stay tuned.

Calling ALL Space Shuttle RC Model Lovers!
Okay, presently I am thinking of risking this model of mine and bring it down from where it is stored and fly it again.
However, I am looking to see about a new EDF Power System and presently Freewing just released (through MotionRC) a 70mm EDF Jet known as the Vulcan of 41.3 inch wing span.
I am considering ordering the exact power system for the Space Shuttle model that I have.
Here is the Vulcan 4S by Freewing:
https://www.motionrc.com/products/fr...GTeOEai.LUYCSB
My goals is to use the same power system that they are using in the Vulcan with the 12-Blade Fan Unit and Inrunner BL Motor:
https://www.motionrc.com/products/fr...9-2850kv-e7215

Anyone have any thoughts?

In keeping the "Dream Alive" like Richard Milton would say, I finally went out on Friday, August 26th, 2022 (Yesterday) morning and tried out the Space Shuttle EDF Project at the Orlando Speed World - DRIFT Surface and unfortunately it didn't gain any altitude beyond 4 feet off the ground. The first try, I must had too much nose heavy and re-adjusted the batteries rearward and then, it rotated and took off but, once in the Air it just didn't have any power (Thrust) and I landed in the wet grass area adjacent to the Drift Surface. A nice young boy went out with his Crock shoes and retrieved the Space Shuttle and no damage.
I truly believe that the batteries used were NOT up to the task and by the time the model got airborne, the batteries sag something horrible.
On subsequent runs, I just turned the event into a Space Shuttle shake down to see what is working and not. The Left Elevon has an intermittent function and the wire is compromised (grabbed the wire bundle and saw the servo finally work). Also, the nose wheel servo is busted as I heard the servo squeal like a pig so, I disconnected nose wheel steering and continue with my runs.
A few pictures.

The same EDF! Didn't change a thing, yet!

Opened a cheater hole down below!

Used too old of battery packs!

Wide angle pic!

I am glad that I took advise from my good friend Gerry Rivera (Skybro) who told me to hang this model way UP HIGH so, it would not be taken for just any flight due to its unique and rare kind of a model.
After almost 12 years this model performed very well considering the Technology that it was setup at the time back 12 years ago.
New batteries are being ordered and some work (minor repairs) will be done plus comparison to newer and more powerful EDF (70mm) will be considered.
Thank you for watching!
