Default Ultrafly F-16

Im looking at getting this jet and was wondering if you need rudder control for it? Would it be able to fly with just a 3 channel transmitter with ailerons and elevator?

Thanks.

No you dont need rudder, you can fly it without.

would rudder be recommended? ALso, is there a big difference between the brushless option and the speed 400? Is it worth the $70 for brushless and more for a brushless esc?

With no landing gear no rudder is needed, this plane corners well.A brushless motor is worth the investment as you can get longer
flights and three times the power is possible. The motor I have is a Park-400 brushless motor by E-flight and a castle phonix 25
controller by Castle Creations and a 3s Li-Po battery and it's a rocket. If you are not settled on a battery yet go lithium it's the only way to go.E-flight motor about $50,Castle Creation controller about $50,Li-Po battery about $65,ballpark estimates only.
It does fly fine on the stock set-up though.

Hope this helps.

Hobbico MkII charger another $50 (for the LiPo) 12v power supply $45 or you can make one for about $5 in parts at RS
I know it sounds like a crazy nickle and dime thing but definaltely go brushless and LiPo.

lol, Ive priced it all out and it will be very expensive, this is my first plane that is not RTF, so I need to buy everything.

I dont want to spend the money for brushless, but I know I will

I would try to buy it all as a package from the LHS and strike a deal. I was able to save about 30 bucks that way.

there is no LHS around. I had one 30 min away but they closed, there is another about 45 minutes away, but I dont think they're big into planes. Maybe I could get a deal if I buy it off ebay...who knows.

What kinds of servos would I need? I was thinking of buying the cheapest 4 channle JR Quattro off of Horizon, it comes with 4 servos, so I could have rudder also.

Um... have you flown a propjet before? If not I would recomend you take another route to enjoying rc flight as this is not a good plane to learn on.

lol, no jets before, just a parkflyer which I am learning on, I would not be getting this plane anytime soon...maybe around x-mas. You think it would not be good for a first jet?

In a word...No. IMHO go to 3dfoamy.com. get an F-18 or download the plans. Get an eflite 370 or 400 with the gearbox, a Castle 25 esc and a 3s 1500 mah Lipo along with the above mentioned charger. This will give you a great flying plane (still absolutly not a trainer!!!) and a decent intro to electrics that can be used in a wide variety of models. The other recomendation is to get a good radio, not one with only one or two model memory. IMO a Futaba 7c would be a good start.

ahhh...www.3dfoamy.com isnt working right now, ill check later.

Anyway, Im just looking for something fun to fly. I am undecided weather to try a cool looking jet, or a 3d foamy. Either way it will be a long time until anything is purchased.

Are jets hard to fly? Id imagine that they make it hard for the pilot to stay oriented while in flight, and to see which way the plane is going.

Whats not "cool jet" about this?[sm=confused.gif] As you can see I have built quite a few of them and still haven't spent what you are getting ready to fork over for one ultrafly that is way more fragile. They are not hard to fly they just go where they are pointed even if you don't think thats the way you pointed it.[8D]

a cool jet is any good-looking jet, lol.

Where do you get the plans and foam for building? Is it easy and do they turn out looking nice?

What tools are needed for cutting and building. What kind of glue and just any sharp exacto knife?

does www.3dfoamy.com work for you?

Youve gotten me really interested in the 3dfoamy F-18. How hard is the kit to build? All the foam is cut so it shouldnt be bad. Do you think it would be ok as my first kit?

It would end up costing about the same, but you say that the 3dfoamy F-18 is a better plane than the ultrafly f-16.

Ok, ok...Now I am also curious. But looking at 3d foamy, there is no F-16 available and I want an F-16 for my first model... What are the main differences between the ultrafly and the 3dfoamy? And what are the costs for them?

Ultrafly has the F-16 and 3dfoamy has the F-18. Both are $60-70 and the Ultrafly comes with a speed 400 motor, but you can get it with a brushless motor for around $140. The 3dfoamy F-18 comes with no motor, but you buy your own brushless and go on. From what Ive read (Ive never flown either)...the 3dfoamys F-18 is much more popular and a much better plane.

Have converted an Ultrafly f16 to edf with a wattage fan and a himax 2025, flys well with Thunder 2000 "pro-Light" weight is 19.5 oz ready to fly, here is my question: The new pro-light 2000 pack is great, less weight more power, but I want more mah, would like to try 2500-3000 mah but in a "new generation" type (like the pro-light) but there next mah is 4200, found the poly-quest 2600 mah, but don't know if it is the "new more powerful type"?? Is there another manufacturer that makes what I am looking for??

This interesting, so you converted it to ducted fan. I got one coming to me soon, and if it goes well, mabee i can try a conversion.
Is it hand launch or bungee?
cheers
Matt
