b16: Five stars all around by the H.King, I noticed. What sort of speed/ durability you expecting outfitted like that? Looks sweet.
Thanks to you in the great land of the Steelhead, a speedy and noble fish.

Well, I flew it once and it is fast, I would guess at least 90Mph at full throttle, but pulls 83 amps. Flies great at about 3/4 throttle, still fast and not so loud!

I had to remove fan as it came loose, so I added green loctite on shaft and blade adapter, this is much smoother now, Also found a bad connection on the motor connector.

Here is a vid of a power test (no flight vids yet)

Smooth windup there, b-16 [8D]. I cannot wait to finally get mine when H.People get some back-ordered fitty-cent servo connector doo-dad that's held up the order for a month now. I'm like a ten year old again. Got spray paint (Krylon "short-cuts" and also H2O in case that melts stuff) and hop-up aftermarket stuff coming, too, and I haven't even gotten the bloody bird yet!

Just built my fifth EF-16. I didn't go crazy this time. Boxed in the tailerons with 1/32 ply, painted with H2O, E-flite fan and BL15 motor. Gonna try it on 4-5 cells and see what we get. Used some decals left over from my E-flite F-86 Sabre. Gave it a sharks mouth and eyes. I like it. I'll post a pic. Tell me what you guys think.

Question: kit calls for epxoy for servo mounting, would silicone or hot melt glue work ok in case I need to remove or repair servos
Thanks in advance 45acp

Hi Cal.45ACP, Put masking tape around the servos and glue them in with epoxy. That way if you have to remove the servos for any reason, you can peel off the tape and the servos will not have any glue on them. Hot melt glue is not very strong and most silicon glues will melt the foam. Good luck with your F-16. It's a great flyer, even stock. Bob G.

The maiden flight went well, got it trimmed and landed. I had way to much throws in the tailerons.. Dialed in some expo and dropped the throws to a manageable level. Second flight was very fast and on my fourth pass the left taileron let go . This caused a very violent bank that sheared the left wing.. My 6 cell thunder power batt went several hundred yards across our field..lol.. Never to be seen again. I boxed the tail completely, it looks like the foam just let go. I picked up the pieces and epoxied it back together. You can hardly tell it ever crashed. The main fuselage floated down and landed flat. Only loss was a very tired 6cell batt. Flies great on three cells but I'm scarred to push it much faster without glassing it. My full glassed f-16 was in the 175 mph range and never showed any signs of coming apart.

You've got good luck, dude!
Is that 175 mph F-16 also a Phase 3? That's spooky fast, whatever she is.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all of the info you've posted here. It has helped to convince me to buy a P3 "kit" (should be here Wed. and I'm very excited). I'll be mounting a generic 64mm fan with a 5250kv outrunner (from Nitro Planes) and a 40 amp ESC. I plan to use a 3s 2200mah battery and mg servos.
The motor/fan combo was first installed in a mini-F16 that was just not born to fly. It appeared to have plenty of power but, the airframe was junk.
The combo above will produce 420 watts at 38amps WOT using the 3s 2200mah. What kind of performance do you think I'll get using this equipment?

Thanks,
RJ

Thought I''d share a couple of pictures of my new bird. The wings are painted but, all else are decals.

I'm having a bit of difficulty getting this bird to fly straight and level. It wants to take a hard dive to terra firma with the factory CG position. I mounted the motor 1 1/2" aft of the molded liine because I'll be using 3S 2200 batteries weighing approx. 164 oz. Static balance with the battery mounted in front of the receiver was a bit nose heavy but, that's desirable especially for first flight. On the first flight I had to give it full UP trim and it still wanted to nose dive. I immediately landed and made adjustments to bring the battery further to the rear. That helped quite a bit but, it still required a lot of UP trim to keep it level. I made mechanical adjustments to position the elevators even with the bottom of the fuselage rather than 1/4" up as the manual states. That creates a lot of drag and I'd rather not fly it that way.
Have any of you folks figured out the CG mystery on this plane? It seems a lot of folks are having the same issue.

RJ

I have never had any CG issues with this plane. It should balance right at the front of the cheater holes. Even with a 1500 watt setup on a 6cell 2250 mah pack it flew rock solid. The only issue I've ever had was a difference in washout at the wing tips inducing a roll. This was caused by my glass application and corrected with light heat and persistence. Make sure the tips of the tailerons are lower then the root. If not then they are installed wrong. I have heard of this happening... Hope you work it out.

I used magnets on the glassed one. They held very well but I lost the belly pan when I cut the throttle abruptly at high speed. I posted photos on this thread . I had to add a small piece of clear tape on the seam to secure it.

Thanks for the reply Bobby. I'll keep working at it until I get it right. I'll bet it's something simple I've overlooked. That's usually the case for me.
OK on the elevator tips. I almost made that mistake but, fortunately looked over the instructions (hate to admit that in public ) to double check and caught it in time.

I use a lot of up trim for launch then trim it down for hi speed then give about 4 clicks up for landing.

SWEEEEEEEETTT vid., Bobby! Thanks for showing me how quickly these birds obtain height and speed, and it's good to see you're able to tight-turn her like that coming in for a landing. That bird covers some ground!I may have to reorder one.
Here's what happend to MY F-16: Hobby People sat on my order of one for so long without running it (about two months) my credit card expiredand when they finally had my order ready they camea-knocking. Well! I had had time to rethink it and decide to SLOWDOWNONPROP BIRDSFIRSTand so I didn't give 'em my new security information. Lesson: JUMPon impulse airplane buyers like me! I've bought four ParkZones since.
Question: Do you or would you consider using the camera goggles for First Person View?RCfella from Australia uses them (see Micro T-28 thread under both Park and Backyard flyers and Indoor/micro).
I think I'll stick to standard R/C 'cause it involves the brain-schtuck of opposite directions/control input that make for fun. Fying through goggles: just a different deal altogether, or cheating?<object height="390" width="640"><param name="movie" v="" www.youtube.com="" value="<a href=" />http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3" _fcksavedurl=" >http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3" _fcksavedurl=" >http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><embed v="" www.youtube.com="" src="<a href=">http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3" _fcksavedurl=">http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3" _fcksavedurl=">http://www.youtube.com/v/I4PN7oMPNt4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&versi on=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

DUH ! I finally figured out the answer to my CG issue ....balance it upside down. The center of mass (weight) is above the center line (and wing) and affects the static balance. First time I tried it with my home made CG machine, it locked right in after moving the battery (very slightly) a couple of times. It balanced very near the front of the cheater holes using a 3S 2200mah 20C battery with the 64mm fan and 4500kv motor mounted at the 1 1/2" position. It flew a little twitchy in pitch so I need to move the battery a hair forward but, other than that it was pretty solid. The CG is pretty sensitive on my bird ....when I move the battery a little it makes a very noticeable difference in flight.
